2024 GMC Sierra EV: What We Know So Far

0

The pickup segment is going toward electrification as well and key players in the business are already working on all-electric iterations of their popular model. The F-150 Lightning was already presented, while the all-electric Silverado is on the way. So, we expect the same from GMC, which should offer an all-electric pickup in the near future as well. At this point, it’s still unknown whether GMC is about to use a new moniker for the all-electric pickup, or will rely on the well-known Sierra nameplate. The latter seems much more likely to us.

In any case, we expect to see a design that will once again have a lot of things in common with the Silverado EV. Once again, the two models will share mechanics and most of the design solutions, while the main differences would come in terms of aesthetics.

We believe that the 2024 GMC Sierra EV could arrive already in the second half of 2023.

2024 GMC Sierra EV Design

Despite the familiar nameplate, the 2024 GMC Sierra EV will be a brand-new model. It won’t have many things in common with the current ICE Sierra, as it will be based on the new Ultium platform. Just like the new Silverado EV, it will bring some new design solutions that will make it relevant in the segment of all-electric pickups.

Most of the parts should be shared with the electric sibling from Chevy. On the other hand, the key difference will be aesthetics. This model will come with a different look, adapted to GMC’s design language. Also, we have no doubt that the company will once again offer the Denali version of the truck, with loads of exclusive features. Moreover, we also expect to see the AT4 version of the pickup, which would come with all kinds of off-road aids, such as locking differentials, skid plates and many more.

Interior

At this point, it is still early to talk about interior details. Still, we may presume that the new pickup won’t be offered in single-row layouts. Instead, we expect to see a crew cab layout, with a couple of spacious rows of seats and a short cargo bed.

In terms of the dashboard design, we presume that GMC will take a little bit more upscale approach compared to Chevy, with finer materials and more elegant aesthetics. Speaking of aesthetics, we presume that the Denali trim could come with a different dashboard design, just like the new Yukon.

Naturally, the new model will be equipped with all kinds of tech features, such as massive screens and various connectivity abilities. Higher trim levels will also feature Super Cruise, the company’s advanced semi-autonomous driving system.

2024 GMC Sierra EV Powertrain and Performance

We presume that things will be pretty similar to the Silverado EV in this aspect. Therefore, we expect to see base models with a dual-motor setup and all-wheel drive, with a total output of 510 horsepower. Higher trim levels would feature a more capable powertrain, with a max output of 664 horsepower. The latter should feature a max towing capacity of around 10.000 pounds, while the max payload should go around 1.300 pounds. Some sources also speculate about a tri-motor version, with a similar setup to the new GMC Hummer EV. Details are still unavailable.

When it comes to battery, we expect that the range-topping models will feature a 200-kWh battery pack. Base models won’t be that generous but should be capable of making at least 200 miles on a single charge. The new truck will use the new Ultium technology. Besides large battery capacities, this technology also provides pretty impressive charging speeds, so it’s no wonder that the company promises 100 miles of range every 10 minutes.
