The last year was pretty interesting in GMC’s pickup lineup. The light-duty models received a completely new interior design, along with the exterior refresh and other updates. However, it looks like the next year will be even more interesting. First of all, HD models will also receive a facelift and we expect to see similar kinds of interior and exterior updates. Moreover, we also count on significant upgrades under the hood.

This won’t be the only important upgrade. The next-generation GMC Canyon is also on the with, with a completely new design and a completely new engine lineup. Finally, there is the matter of electrification and GMC won’t come with one, but two electric pickups. One of them will carry the well-known Sierra nameplate, while the other one will come with the legendary Hummer badge. Both of these models are expected to debut by the end of this year.

2023 GMC Sierra

The current generation of GMC’s full-size pickup has been around since 2019 and the company already started the updating process. Light-duty models already received a refresh for the 2022 model year, when we saw styling changes, completely new interiors and other novelties. The 2023 model year should bring similar updates to the heavy-duty lineup, particularly in terms of the new cabin design. Furthermore, HD models should also come with a big upgrade under the hood.

The Sierra lineup will be improved but won’t change drastically for the next year. We are still talking about the typical configurations, which include three main models – 1/2-ton, 3/4-ton, and 1/1-ton pickups. All of them come offered in various configurations regarding cab style, bed size, etc. The trim level configuration should also remain pretty much the same.

Light-duty models are available in base, SLE, Elevation, SLT, AT4, AT4X, and Denali and Denali Ultimate trim levels. You can choose between Single Cab, Double Cab, and Crew Cab styles, as well as between 8-foot, 6-foot-6-inch, and 5-foot-8-inch bed sizes.

On the other hand, HD models come with the same cab styles on the offer, but just two bed sizes – 6.8-foot or 8.1-foot units. HD models are currently available in Pro, SLE, SLT, AT4 and Denali trim levels, but we presume this could change after the upcoming mid-cycle refresh. Also, we expect some pretty big engine upgrades to come with this refresh.

Another big novelty for the next year should be the introduction of the all-electric Sierra. The Sierra EV will be the newest addition to the Sierra lineup but, interestingly, it won’t have so many things in common with other Sierra models. It will use different technologies, while the familiar nameplate will be used to boost initial sales.

It comes with a massive infotainment screen and digital instrument cluster, which are standard in all but base trim level.

Under the hood, you can’t find the old V6 anymore. You get decent off-road performance for a significantly lower price compared to the AT4X. The current model starts at around 55.000 dollars.

2023 GMC Sierra EV

The all-electric Sierra is expected to come already in the next year. At this point, we still don’t know the exact details but we presume that most of the parts will be shared with the all-electric Silverado. Therefore, count on the new Ultium battery technology, which will allow super-fast charging and other benefits.

The new pickup should feature a 200-kWh battery pack, which should ensure up to 400 miles of the all-electric range. Base models should feature 510 horsepower, while higher trim levels should come with a max output of 664 horsepower and a max towing capacity of around 10.000 pounds. The company also promises a version with a 20.000-pound towing capacity in the future.

We estimate that the base GMC Sierra EV will cost around 55.000 dollars.

2023 GMC Sierra 2500HD

The next year will be pretty big for Sierra HD models. We expect to see a mid-cycle refresh, with similar updates we saw in the 1500 model for this year. Therefore, you may count on an updated styling, with the new front end, new wheels etc. More importantly, we expect to see a completely new interior design, with much higher quality, better ergonomics and way more tech features.

Besides new exterior and exterior designs, the 2023 GMC Sierra 2500HD should bring some upgrades under the hood as well. The 2023 GMC Sierra 3500HD will also receive a mid-cycle refresh and just like the 2500HD model, it will get a new interior design, as well as some styling updates. Still, the biggest upgrade should happen under the hood.

More importantly, the max torque will go up from 910 lb-ft all-away up to 1.085 pound-feet of torque, according to rumors. 2023 GMC Canyon

Big novelties are coming in the mid-size pickup segment as well. The Canyon is about to receive a complete redesign. The new generation is on the way and it will replace the current model, which features pretty much a decade-old design.

The new model will be on an updated version of the 31XX platform, codenamed 31XX-2. We expect that the new generation will save some weight and offer better driving characteristics. Of course, most of the parts will be shared with the next-generation Colorado, which is also coming soon. On the other hand, we don’t expect bigger changes regarding the size. Moreover, we count on three familiar configurations regarding cab style and bed length. That would be Extended Cab with Long Box, Crew Cab with Short Box, and Crew Cab with Long Box.

Of course, we expect to see a completely new exterior design, which should take a lot of inspiration from the current Sierra. We expect to see a bolder and more rugged design, with accentuate front-end design and lots of new details. A new interior is another thing we expect to see, with a more attractive design, nicer materials and way more tech features. The latter refers to a massive infotainment screen and digital instrument cluster, but also things like new driver-assistance features.

Finally, expect to see big changes under the hood. The next-generation 2023 GMC Canyon will drop all of the three current engine options and replace it with a 2.7-liter turbo-four. The max output should go around 310 horsepower and 348 pound-feet of torque. For comparison, the current model comes with a 2.5-liter inline-four, 3.6-liter V6, and a 3.0-liter inline-six turbodiesel. Also, the new model will get a new 10-speed automatic transmission.

2023 GMC Canyon AT4X

As we’ve just mentioned, the next-generation Canyon will bring a new design, but you may also count on some all-new versions. This particularly refers to the new AT4X trim, which will be the most capable off-roader in the lineup. This model will come with all kinds of upgrades, particularly in terms of mechanics.

We presume that most of the parts will be shared with the Chevy Colorado ZR2. Therefore, some of the highlights should be upgrades like Multimatic’s spool-valve dampers, locking front and rear differentials, Goodyear Wrangler Territory all-terrain tires, increased ground clearance, etc.

Of course, the 2023 GMC Canyon AT4X will come standard with four-wheel drive, powered by the 2.7-liter turbo-four, which puts out 310 horsepower and 348 pound-feet of torque. Details about the price are yet to come.

2023 GMC Hummer EV

Without any doubt, Hummer’s revival is one of the biggest novelties in GM’s kitchen. The legendary model is now coming with GMC’s badge and in the all-electric form. It will come with plenty of interesting design and tech solutions, but it will also keep the legendary Hummer shape.

Visually, you can notice a lot of resemblance to the original gummer. The legendary shape is there, though we can easily notice that glass surfaces are much bigger this time, which should be highly beneficial in terms of the outward visibility. The pickup version is about to come first, while the SUV will come soon after.

Of course, the most interesting aspect of the Hummer EV will be the powertrain. The initial model, called the Edition 1, will come already in the second half of this year. It will be the most capable version in the lineup, equipped with three electric motors, which will produce a combined output of 1.000 horsepower and 1.100 pound-feet of torque, which will be enough to move this huge truck from zero to sixty in about three seconds. Also, we expect that this version will be able to tow up to 11.000 pounds. This version will come equipped with a 200-kWh battery pack, which should ensure 329 miles of the all-electric range. Details about other models in the lineup are yet to come.

Another interesting aspect of this pickup will be its interior design. A crew-cab model will be the only one on the offer and it will come with two very spacious rows of seats. The dashboard will be designed in a minimalistic layout, with a massive infotainment screen and digital instrument cluster. However, it will also be full of interesting details, such as a moon-boot footprint on the dead pedal and Sea of Tranquility speaker grilles, which celebrate GM’s involvement in the lunar rover program of Apollo missions.
