By The current generation of GMC’s HD pickups has been around for just a couple of years but if we can trust the latest reports, changes will come already for the 2023 GMC Sierra 2500 HD. The light-duty series are about to receive a mid-cycle refresh already for the 2022 model and HD counterparts will follow them a year later.
At this point, it’s still hard to talk about details. However, the testing model has been spotted and we can see that it wears a lot of camouflage, which indicates some pretty intense styling changes. Furthermore, we expect to see interior changes as well, while the mechanical aspect of the truck should remain pretty much the same.
The 2023 Sierra 2500 HD should arrive sometime in the second half of 2022.
2023 GMC Sierra 2500 HD Redesign
As we’ve just mentioned, the 2023 GMC Sierra 2500 HD is about to receive a mid-cycle update. The testing model has already been spotted and from what we can see, it wears a lot of camouflage. It’s hard to talk about the exact styling changes but we presume that the focus will be on the front end. We presume some of the areas that could receive changes are headlights, grille, bumper etc. The rear end also wears camouflage and we expect to see a new taillights design.
We also count on typical mid-cycle updates like new colors and wheels. On the other hand, we don’t believe that more important mechanical changes could happen. The 2023 Sierra 2500 HD will continue in the same way, riding on the T1 platform and offering a good balance between comfort and capabilities.
Interior
The most important changes will probably come on the inside. You probably know the story about how the interior remained untouched despite the redesign. So, we expect that the 2023 GMC Sierra 2500 HD will be completely new, with a completely new dashboard design. It should look pretty similar to what we are about to see in the 2022 Sierra 1500. This would mean a new dashboard layout, a new infotainment screen and a completely new center console. Also, count on a completely new, modern gear shifter, instead of the good-old steering-column-mounted unit.
2022 GMC Sierra 1500 Interior
The rest of the cabin shouldn’t change too much. We count on the same overall layout, same cab styles on the offer, as well as same bed sizes. Of course, novelties regarding new features are also expected. However, we don’t believe in rumors that suggest the 2023 Sierra 2500 HD could come with a Super Cruise semi-autonomous driving system. Simply, that’s not something that bothers drivers of HD pickups too much.
2023 GMC Sierra 2500 HD Engines
Under the hood, the 2023 GMC Sierra 2500 HD will continue in the same way. This means two familiar engine options, starting from a relatively new 6.6-liter V8, which features a max output of around 401 horsepower and 464 pound-feet of torque. Interestingly, this engine still comes in pair with a 6-speed automatic transmission.
The well-known Duramax turbodiesel will also continue in the same way. We are talking about a good-old 6.6-liter V8, which puts out around 445 horsepower and 910 pound-feet of torque. Unlike the gasoline engine, this one comes in pair with a new 10-speed automatic gearbox.
Release Date and Price
Given the mid-cycle update, we believe that the 2023 GMC Sierra 2500 HD will arrive a little bit earlier than usual, but probably still within the second half of 2022. When it comes to the price, the current model starts at around 40.000 dollars and we don’t expect that the new model could cost significantly higher. Key competitors are Ford F-250 and Ram 2500.
