By The next-generation Tacoma is on the way and besides the completely new design, the most popular mid-size pickup will also come with a new trim level. The brand-new 2024 Toyota Tacoma Trailhunter has just been teased and it should represent the most rugged, overland-ready version of the pickup. At this point, we don’t know all details about it but there are a few things that are pretty obvious and can be seen in teased pictures.
This particularly refers to unique styling details, as well as some serious off-road upgrades. On the other hand, what’s underneath is yet to be determined. Of course, this refers to the overall aesthetics, as well as the interior design. Finally, there is the matter of the powertrain that should, just like in the upcoming TRD Pro trim, come electrified.
2024 Toyota Tacoma Trailhunter Design
So, the 2024 Toyota Tacoma Trailhunter will be based on the next-generation Tacoma, which will arrive about the same time. The new generation will bring all kinds of benefits, while this particular trim will be all about upgrades. As we already mentioned, this will be an overland-ready trim, with a full load of upgrades. The first thing you’ll probably notice is the ARB-sourced rear bumper and a big frame-mounted tow hook. Also, there are darkened, Trailhunter-branded headlight bezels, flared fenders, and all-terrain tires. Finally, we expect to see things like unique skid plates, roof racks etc.
As for the mechanics, details are still unknown but we presume the new model could come with similar hardware as TRD Pro. This would mean all kinds of upgrades, starting from the off-road suspension with increased ground clearance, locking differential and many more.
Interior
As for interior design, things are still unknown. Of course, the base cabin layout will be based on the standard next-generation Tacoma, which is about to bring a completely new design, with nicer materials, more attractive aesthetics and more tech features. Speaking of the tech features, the infotainment system of the new generation will be the same one as in the new Tundra, but probably with a smaller screen.
We expect this model to be offered exclusively in a crew cab layout, with two rows of adult-friendly seats. Furthermore, this will be a special version, so we are pretty sure that will be a good portion of exclusive details, such as materials and color schemes. Moreover, we also expect to see a lot of accessories, which is already the case in TRD-badged models.
2024 Toyota Tacoma Trailhunter Engine
Not so long ago, the company released a teaser photo of the new TRD Pro that clearly indicates a hybrid powertrain. So, we are pretty sure that the 2024 Toyota Tacoma Trailhunter will follow the same example. What we expect to see is a completely new system, based on a turbo-four engine. The relatively new 2.4-liter turbo-four should come paired with an electric motor and a battery, in a similar way as Tundra pairs its V6. So, another important feature of this system will be the transmission. Instead of a CVT, something that is used in most Toyota hybrids, we will see a classic automatic transmission with a torque converter. The new Tundra uses a 10-speed transmission, while the new Tacoma will probably use an 8-speed unit.

2024 Toyota Tacoma Trailhunter Release Date and Price
We presume that the 2024 Toyota Tacoma Trailhunter will arrive sometime in the second half of the year, along with the rest of the lineup. As for the price, we presume it will cost more than the TRD Pro, which currently goes around 45.000 dollars. Key competitors should be the most rugged variants of Gladiator, Colorado etc.
