2024 Toyota Tundra Hybrid Preview: Specs, Features, Changes

0

The current generation of Toyota’s full-size pickup was redesigned last year after so many years, so we expect that the Japanese manufacturer won’t’ rush with updates. Instead, we expect to see a typical carryover model, with minor changes. This refers to the hybrid version as well, which will come as the 2024 Toyota Tundra Hybrid. At this point, some sources speculate about the powertrain’s availability in lower trim levels but we can’t say if that’s likely to happen or not at this point.

The more probable scenario is to see it once again reserved in higher trim levels. This means that all variants of the hybrid version will be well-equipped, and quite expensive. The specifications will also remain the same, so you may count on a familiar system that offers 437 horsepower.

Since no bigger changes are expected, we presume that the 2024 Toyota Tundra Hybrid will hit the market sometime in the second half of 2023.

2024 Toyota Tundra Hybrid Design

Design-wise, the 2024 Toyota Tundra Hybrid will carry on in the same way. We will see the same overall design that was introduced for the 2022 model year, with the new platform, which provided much better ride quality, higher capabilities etc. The styling will also remain the same, with the brand’s contemporary design language, which combines bold and aggressive aesthetical solutions.

The Hybrid version will probably once again be offered in higher trim levels, which means that you may count on exclusive features, particularly in terms of aesthetics. On the other hand, the TRD Pro offers not just exclusive styling details, but also a lot of mechanical upgrades. Some of the highlights are upgraded suspension, all-terrain tires, locking rear differential, skid plates and more.

Interior

The same thing is with interior design, which looks very nice. The dashboard combines bold styling elements with lots of tech features and quality materials, while the ergonomics are also pretty good. The overall build quality is pretty good, and we also like the front seats very much, as they are massive and supportive.

On the other hand, the second-row passenger space depends on the cab style you choose. The Crew cab is very generous in this aspect and accommodates adults in the second row with ease. On the other hand, the second row in the Double Cab model isn’t particularly impressive.

Trim Levels

Some sources speculate about the hybrid powertrain available in lower trim levels. Currently, this powertrain is standard in high-end versions like TRD Pro and Capstone, and available in  Limited, Platinum and 1794 Edition trims.

The Limited trim is already a well-equipped variant of the Tundra, with a lot of conveniences and tech features. Some of the highlights are goodies like synthetic leather upholstery, power-adjustable front seats with heating and cooling functions, dual-zone automatic climate control, a 14-inch touch screen, digital instrument cluster, two additional USB ports, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert and 20-inch wheels.

The Platinum trims add numerous upgrades, such as genuine leather upholstery, a heated steering wheel, heated and ventilated rear seats, wireless device charging, a 12-speaker stereo, two 120-volt household-style power outlets, ambient lighting, a panoramic sunroof, rear sunshades, a digital rearview mirror, a surround-view parking camera system and 20-inch wheels.

The 1974 Edition offers a similar list of standard equipment as Platinum but comes with a couple of exclusive styling features and a unique interior color scheme.

The TRD Pro is an off-road version of the pickup, which comes with things like upgraded suspension, a locking rear differential, skid plates, all-terrain tires etc.

Finally, there is the Capstone trim, which adds upgrades like a head-up display, power-retractable running boards and 22-inch wheels.

2024 Toyota Tundra Hybrid Engine

The powertrain system will certainly remain the same. A 3.4-liter twin-turbo V6 engine comes in a combination with an electric motor, for a combined output of 437 horsepower and 583 pound-feet of torque. That’s plenty enough for strong driving dynamics, while you may also count on the max towing capacity that goes up to 12.000 pounds.

The average fuel economy depends on the drivetrain and other configuration elements but you may count on up to 19 mpg in the city and 24 mpg on the highway. The system comes paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission, which is smooth and very refined.

2024 Toyota Tundra Hybrid Release Date and Price

We expect to see the 2024 Toyota Tundra Hybrid sometime in the last quarter of 2023. As the Platinum trim is the first one that offers this powertrain, the cheapest Tundra you can buy as a hybrid currently goes around 55.000 dollars. We don’t expect bigger changes for the next year. The competition is mostly about the Big Three –models like Chevy Silverado 1500, Ram 1500, Ford F-150 and GMC Sierra 1500.
