After all the updates that came with the 2022 model, we are pretty sure that the next year’s Sierra will carry on in the same way, with the same design characteristics and features. This refers to all versions of the truck, including the AT4 models. This badge has always been reserved for the off-road version of the truck and since this year’s model, there are two variants of it. The standard AT4 features decent off-road capability, while the new AT4X brings a few more upgrades to the table, making this truck even better.

Besides off-road upgrades, these pickups are also full of unique styling details, as well as a long list of standard and available equipment. We are pretty sure that these aspects of the truck won’t change either.

Since no bigger changes are about to come for the next year, we presume that the 2023 GMC Sierra 1500 AT4 will hit the market sometime in the last quarter of the year.

2023 GMC Sierra 1500 AT4 Design

Design-wise, the AT4 heavily relies on the standard pickup. The overall design is largely the same, whether it’s about mechanics or aesthetics. However, there is a long list of upgrades, particularly in terms of off-road features. Of course, the first thing that comes to mind is suspension, which includes off-road dampers, lift kit and similar things. The 2023 GMC Sierra 1500 AT4 will continue to sit 2 inches higher than the standard model, while the list of standard off-road hardware will also include standard 4WD, two-speed transfer case, hill-descent controls and more.

Visually, this model stands out in a few ways, starting from a uniquely-designed grille, lots of blacked details etc.

Sierra 1500 AT4X

This version features everything the standard AT4 does but there are a few upgrades as well. Once again, it’s all about off-road upgrades. Some of the things you can find are off-road shock absorbers, electronically locking front and rear differentials, and Goodyear Wrangler DuraTrac Mud-Terrain tires. Those are pretty much the same features that can be found in the ZR2 version of Sierra’s mechanical twin, the Silverado.

Interior

Both versions benefit from the recent update. There is a new cabin design, which utilized a full load of new interior elements. Of course, the biggest changes are on the dashboard, which features a new design, characterized by a more mature shape, much nicer materials and more tech features. Of course, there is a massive infotainment screen, as well as a digital instrument cluster. Another important change that came with the 2022 model is that the gear shifter isn’t on the steering column anymore, but rather in a more natural position – on the center console.

The AT4X comes with a couple of exclusive features, such as a suede headliner, upgraded leather, a 15-inch head-up display and massaging front seats. Both versions will come standard with goodies like dual-zone automatic climate control, two 120-volt household-style power outlets, leather upholstery, power-adjustable front seats, heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, updated infotainment system with a 13.4-inch touchscreen, digital instrument cluster etc.

2023 GMC Sierra 1500 AT4 Engines

This aspect definitely won’t change and the 2023 GMC Sierra 1500 AT4 will continue with familiar engine options on the offer. Unlike more basic versions of the truck, this trim can’t be configured with the base V6 engine, not the 2.7-liter turbo-four. Instead, the offer starts with a familiar 5.3-liter V8, which features a max output of 355 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque.

For those who prefer something more capable, the next year’s model will continue with the well-known 6.2-liter V8 on the offer. This engine puts out around 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque. Finally, there is a diesel engine, available only in the standard AT4 model. Of course, we are talking about Chevy’s familiar 3.0-liter inline-six turbodiesel, which puts out around 277 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque.

All engines come in pair with a 10-speed automatic transmission.
