By Chevy’s pickup has been around for a while and after a massive update in 2022, the 2023 model brought an upgraded diesel engine, with more power and torque. Now, in 2024, that same engine will become available in Silverado’s toughest iteration, the ZR2. For the first time, this pickup won’t be offered just as a gasoline pickup, but also as the 2024 Chevy Silverado ZR2 Diesel. From what we know so far, the only thing about this version will be the engine. The rest of the design, though, will remain unchanged.
All this means that the 2024 Chevy Silverado ZR2 Diesel will also offer the impressive off-road ability, thanks to the massive upgrades. Of course, we are talking about suspension modifications, as well as many other off-road goodies. Furthermore, there are several unique styling details, along with a good portion of exclusive features on the inside.
2024 Chevy Silverado ZR2 Diesel Engine
As mentioned, the biggest novelty for the next year’s ZR2 will be the new engine. So far, this pickup truck has been available exclusively with a 6.2-liter V8 gasoline unit, but the new model will also come as the 2024 Chevy Silverado ZR2 Diesel. This means we will see the same, recently upgraded version, with increased power and torque. With a 28-hp power boost, this engine is now rated at 305 horsepower, while the max torque has also been notably increased – from 460 to 495 pound-feet.
Besides the additional torque, which is always welcome when it comes to off-roading, the key benefit of this engine will be superior fuel economy. Although the ratings will certainly be a little bit lower compared to on-road variants of Silverado Diesel, this pickup will still remain significantly more efficient than the gasoline-powered ZR2. For reference, the standard Silverado diesel returns an impressive 24 mpg in the city and 29 mpg on the highway, so we presume that they won’t drop more than 2 mpg in the case of ZR2. That’s still miles ahead of 15 mpg in the city and 16 mpg on the highway, which is the economy you get from the gasoline model.
2024 Chevy Silverado ZR2 Diesel Design
Of course, the 2024 Chevy Silverado ZR2 Diesel will carry on with the same design as the gas-powered version. This pickup stands out in many ways, starting from a unique, more rugged styling, which accentuated the model’s off-road nature. Still, upgrades under the skin are way more important in this case.
This pickup will come with a full load of off-road upgrades, starting from the standard four-wheel drive, which comes in a combination with a two-speed transfer case and electronic rear differential. Furthermore, the pickup comes with 33-inch off-road tires, which come with unique 18-inch wheels. The suspension setup includes upgrades like spool-valve dampers, while the ground clearance is also notably increased, so much that it provides nearly 32 degrees of the approach angle.
Interior
On the inside the ZR2 benefits from the last year’s interior redesign and, of course, the 2024 Chevy Silverado ZR2 Diesel will continue in the same way. This means that you may count on the same attractive dashboard that combines attractive design with impressive tech features. Some of the highlights are a massive 13.4-inch infotainment screen, as well as a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster. Furthermore, this trim level comes exclusively with dark leather upholstery, while the front bucket seats offer pretty good side support. The ZR2 will continue exclusively in the Crew Cab layout, with comfortable back seats.
Along with the massive infotainment screen, this pickup comes standard with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, as well as Amazon Alexa, Google voice assistance, navigation, app store and many more. The list of standard safety features is also pretty long. It includes goodies like forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane keep assist and many more.
2024 Chevy Silverado ZR2 Release Date and Price
We expect to see the 2024 Chevy Silverado ZR2 Diesel in the second half of the year, with a starting price of around 72.000 dollars. Just like the gasoline version, it will compete with models like RAM TRX, Ford F-150 Raptor etc.
