2023 Chevrolet Silverado 4500 Review: Specs and Features

The 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 4500 is here and it brings minor updates only. The medium-duty pickup, which arrived in 2019 and it came as a replacement for the good-old Kodiak, which was produced for about four decades. This is an entry-level variant and what’s particularly interesting is that there is no GMC counterpart, for the first time in a very long period. It s also available in 5500 and 6500 variants.

For this year, you may notice a few tweaks regarding standard features or color options but the overall layout is still the same. This pickup keeps the same overall design, coming in two cab variants, powered by a well-known turbodiesel engine. Since it hasn’t been changed significantly, we didn’t see significant pricing changes either.

Design-wise, things are largely the same as in the current model. You may count on familiar aesthetics, which are closer to the previous-generation Silverado light-duty and HD models, especially in terms of the front-end design. There is a good-old 6.6-liter V8 Duramax turbodiesel, which is tuned to 350 horsepower and 700 pound-feet of torque. The engine comes coupled with an Allison transmission and you can choose between RWD and 4×4 drivetrains.

The 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 4500 is already available in showrooms and it starts at around 56.000 dollars. The LT Trim is available at around 60.000 dollars. Of course, key competitors are models like Ford F-450 and Ram 4500.

Chevrolet Kodiak Comeback

Some sources also speculate about the comeback of the familiar nameplate. That model would come with a familiar Kodiak nameplate, and it would be all-electric, according to the reports. Allegedly, it would be closely related to the upcoming Silverado EV, where the key difference would be in the fact that this would be an HD pickup, one of the first of this kind among electric vehicles.

At this point, we don’t have many details, but we presume that this pickup would also use GM’s well-known Ultium battery technology, with a 200-kWh battery pack. We presume that both single- and dual-motor variants would be offered. The officials are still quiet about Kodiak’s comeback.
