Toyota’s full-size pickup has just been redesigned. After so many years of waiting, the new model arrived with tons of improvements. Logically, we would expect no bigger changes for the second production year but that won’t be the case. The Japanese manufacturer already presented a new version, which will debut next year. That model will arrive as the 2023 Toyota Tundra SX.
This will be an optional package, rather than a trim level. It will be based on the SR5 trim and it will bring lots of exclusive details, particularly in terms of the styling. Besides aesthetical upgrades, this model will also bring lots of exclusive features, while the powertrain choice will include both gasoline and hybrid units.
2023 Toyota Tundra SX Design
Design-wise, the 2023 Toyota Tundra SX won’t bring anything significant. It will be based on the standard model, more precisely on the SR5 trim. This is the second lowest trim level in the lineup, so we presume that Toyota’s goal is to offer an attractive model at affordable price. Therefore, you may count on lots of exclusive styling details. Some of the things that come to mind are exclusive Dark Gray Metallic wheels. Also, exterior parts like door handles and bumper are body-colored, instead of being black. A few more details should be mentioned, such as removed door badges, backed badge on the tailgate gets blacked out.
What’s good to know is that the Tundra SX will be offered in four color options – White, Magnetic Gray Metallic, Celestial Silver Metallic and Midnight Black Metallic.
On the other hand, the overall layout will be the same as in the standard SR5 model. So, you may count on both cab designs on the offer. Base models will come with a Double Cab layout and a 6.5-foot bed, while the CrewMax will come with a 5.5-foot bed.
This model will be available in both 4×2 and 4×4 versions, while you may also count on the Towing Package as a part of standard equipment. This package includes a Class IV trailer hitch, integrated trailer brake controller and four-pin and seven-pin trailer connector.
On the inside, the 2023 Toyota Tundra SX will replace smoked silver interior accents with black color. Other than that, things will remain largely the same. You may count on the same, recently introduced cabin design, which utilizes a much nicer dashboard than before. Not only that it looks way more attractive, but it also comes with finer materials and lots of standard equipment.
Speaking of the standard equipment, this version won’t be much different that the SR5 model. Other than the aforementioned exclusive features, things will be pretty much the same. Therefore, count on things like an 8-inch infotainment screen, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, LED headlights, sheet-molded compound composite bed, proximity keyless entry, remote start, adjustable tie-down cleats in the bed etc.
When it comes to safety features, count on goodies like pre-collision warning with automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, lane departure warning and many more.
2023 Toyota Tundra SX Engines
A great thing to know is that the 2023 Toyota Tundra SX will be available with both powertrain options. Therefore, base models will come with a 3.4-liter twin-turbo V6, which features a max output of 389 horsepower and 479 pound-feet of torque. Optionally, you can choose a hybrid version, based on the V6 engine, with additional electric motors and a battery pack. The combined output goes up to 437 horsepower and 583 pound-feet of torque.
Both engines come in pair with a 10-speed automatic transmission, which sends power to either rear or all wheels. When properly equipped, this pickup can tow up to 12.000 pounds.
2023 Toyota Tundra SX Release Date and Price
We expect that the 2023 Toyota Tundra SX will be launched sometime in the last quarter of the year. The exact price tag is yet to be announced. For reference, the SR5 starts at around 42.000 dollars.
