The current generation of GMC’s HD pickup has been around for a while and most sources were suggesting a mid-cycle refresh for the next year. However, it looks like the update has been delayed for the 2024 model year. The 2023 model will arrive already in summer and from what we know so far, there will be no bigger changes. This refers to all models in the lineup, including the range-topping 2023 GMC Sierra 3500HD Denali.

The Denali nameplate has always represented the most luxurious versions of GMC models and this pickup is no exception. It comes with a full load of standard equipment, as well as with a couple of exclusive styling details, which make this truck competitive with rivals like Ram 3500HD Limited or Ford F-350 Platinum. As the mid-cycle refresh has been delayed, we know what to expect from the upcoming model.

2023 GMC Sierra 3500HD Denali Design

Design-wise, the 2023 GMC Sierra 3500HD Denali isn’t any different than other models in the lineup. It also rides on a familiar T1 platform, significantly upgraded for this occasion. Of course, most of the upgrades are in terms of the suspension and chassis setup, so it’s no wonder that the version with the most rigid setup can tow up to 35.500 pounds.

Besides the mechanical upgrades, this particular version also comes with several exclusive styling details, something that you won’t get from other Sierra 3500HD models in the lineup. Of course, the most prominent part is the uniquely-designed grille, as well as 18-inch wheels. Both come in chrome, while chrome trim is present in several other areas of the truck, giving Sierra Denali an additional luxury touch.

Interior

Exclusive interior details are present too and most of them are in front of the driver. You can notice the “Denali” steering wheel, along with the upgraded instrument cluster. Also, it’s hard not to notice that this version uses much finer materials than the rest of the lineup. Many areas are covered with leather and other fine materials, while you can notice a decent portion of stitching as well.

On the other hand, the overall cabin layout remains rather familiar and what’s important to know is that this trim level comes with a crew cab design only. As we are talking about the range-topping model, it’s no wonder that the list of standard equipment is pretty long. Besides features that are available in lower trim levels, there is also a nice number of exclusive features. For example, there are goodies like a power-sliding rear window, premium leather, navigation system, wireless charging, Bose audio system, bed-view camera etc.

2023 GMC Sierra 3500HD Engines

The engine lineup will also remain the same. Therefore, base models will continue with a 6.6-liter V8 gasoline engine, which puts out around 401 horsepower and 464 pound-feet of torque. What’s interesting about this engine is that it still uses an older-generation 6-speed automatic transmission.

Of course, there is also a diesel version, with a 6.6-liter Duramax V8 turbodiesel, which puts out 450 horsepower and 910 pound-feet of torque. The expected engine upgrade should bring significantly more torque. That would certainly improve already impressive towing capabilities, which already go to 35.500 pounds. Unlike the gasoline engine, this one comes coupled with a 10-speed automatic gearbox.
