2023 Nissan Frontier Pro-4X Might Get Additional Upgrades

0

Nissan’s mid-size SUV was finally redesigned last year, after more than fifteen years. Of course, this overhaul brought all kinds of significant changes, even though the new model still rides on the good-old, though significantly improved, F-Alpha platform. Along with the new design, the company also presented a new off-road performance version called the Pro-4X. Therefore, the 2023 Nissan Frontier Pro-4X is about to represent the second production year of the model, which usually means no bigger changes. However, some sources suggest that this off-road model could come with some additional upgrades for the next year.

The catch is in the thing that the current model features decent off-road performance but it is still nowhere near other off-road pickups in the class. Rivals like Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro and Chevy Colorado ZR2 come with more off-road hardware and feel way more capable. So, experts expect Nissan to come up with a few more upgrades.

As we’ve just mentioned, the 2023 Nissan Frontier Pro-4X could come with some additional upgrades. The current model is a decent off-roader but it’s nowhere near as capable as its rivals. Practically, the only notable off-road upgrades are standard four-wheel drive, rear locking differential and skid plates. It definitely needs more than that to catch up with rivals and if we can rely on rumors, there’s a chance to see some additional hardware. That may refer to some additional suspension upgrades or things like hill descent control. Some sources also speculate about a two-speed transfer case. At this point, the officials are still quiet.

On the other hand, we don’t expect to see notable styling changes. The current model already comes with a few exclusive styling details, such as tow hooks, an upgraded grille and unique wheels design. Still, there are never enough new color options, so we may see some novelties in this aspect.

Interior

On the other side, the interior design should come with any notable novelties. The recent redesign has brought a completely new cabin layout, characterized by nicer materials and better dashboard aesthetics. Also, there is a pretty generous list of standard equipment, which includes a 9-inch touchscreen, 10-speed sound system, dual-zone climate control, proximity keyless entry, heated seats and steering wheel, heated side mirrors, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay smartphone integration etc.

Unlike other trim levels, this one isn’t available with the King Cab design. Instead, the only version you can get is a model with Crew Cab style and a 5-foot bed.

2023 Nissan Frontier Pro-4X Engine

Things under the hood definitely won’t change. The 2023 Nissan Frontier Pro-4X will continue with the same 3.8-liter V6, which was introduced two years ago. It features a max output of 310 horsepower and 270 pound-feet of torque, which is plenty enough for decent driving dynamics. The engine comes in pair with a nine-speed automatic transmission, which can hunt for the right gear in certain situations but which is very smooth and feels quite refined.

Of course, four-wheel drive is standard, as well as the rear locking differential. The average fuel economy goes around 17 mpg in the city and 22 mpg on the highway. That’s about average for a mid-size truck with a V6 engine.

2023 Nissan Frontier Pro-4X Release Date and Price

Despite the potential novelties and upgrades, we don’t believe that the 2023 Nissan Frontier Pro-4X will arrive before the last quarter of the year. These upgrades may make the new one a little bit more expensive compared to the current version, which starts at around 39.000 dollars. Key competitors are models like Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro, Chevy Colorado ZR2, Jeep Gladiator Rubicon etc.
