2025 Nissan Frontier Electric: Rumors and Speculations

0

The Frontier was finally redesigned for the 2022 model, after so many years. It is once again a relevant player in the segment, while the sales numbers have improved notably as well. However, it looks like the Japanese manufacturer wants more. It looks like Nissan engineers are working on something new, something that could completely change the pickup segment. Allegedly, the company is working on the 2025 Nissan Frontier Electric.

At this point, the all-electric Frontier is just speculation. The company did present the new Surf-Out concept but it is still unclear in which class the Japanese manufacturer wants to put this pickup. Most sources suggest we could see an all-electric full-size pickup, which makes a lot of sense if we consider that the competition is doing the same. Others suggest a small, unibody pickup, which would compete in the newly-formed segment by Maverick and Santa Cruz. Finally, we could see something between, an electrified Frontier.

Nissan definitely has big plans when it comes to the electrification of its pickup lineup. The company recently presented the Surf-Out concept, which shows Nissan’s vision of the all-electric pickup. We can currently hear different speculations about serial production. Some sources suggest that this model previews the Titan’s all-electric successor. Others suggest this could be a small unibody pickup, which would compete with models like Ford Maverick and Hyundai Santa Cruz.

On the other hand, we believe the company could go for something more realistic first. Namely, the Frontier has already been very popular for a while and the familiar nameplate could only serve as a great jumpstart for the future process of electrification.

So, we think that one of the possible scenarios could be one that brings an all-electric setup with the 2025 Nissan Frontier Electric. In that case, the all-electric pickup would be based on a familiar platform and feature a familiar design, which is pretty much the same thing Ford already did with the F-150.

In that case, the overall design wouldn’t change, while most of the aesthetics would be shared with the V6-powered model, though we would leave some room for potential exclusive details, in terms of the different grille, lighting groups etc.

Interior

If we take the 2025 Nissan Frontier Electric scenario, we presume that there wouldn’t be bigger revisions in terms of the interior design. Instead, we would expect to see the same cabin layout, with the same dashboard, but probably with a little bit different instrument cluster, adapted to the all-electric setup.

At this point, it’s still unclear where the batteries would be placed, under the floor on somewhere else. Therefore, it’s hard to say whether the interior space would be compromised or not. Also, we presume that the all-electric Frontier would be offered in a Crew Cab layout only.

2025 Nissan Frontier Electric Powertrain

Of course, this would be the most interesting aspect of the 2025 Nissan Frontier Electric. At this point, it’s still early for details but we could refer to the new Ariya SUV, for example. That model features comes in two variants regarding battery capacity – 63 and 87 kWh. It is offered with both single and dual-electric motor setups, though we presume that the Frontier would be offered in a dual-motor setup only. With such a setup, Nissan’s crossover puts out 389 horsepower, which seems plenty enough for the all-electric Frontier.

On the other hand, we have no doubt that the standard Frontier will continue with a 3.8-liter V6, which puts out 310 horsepower and comes coupled with a 9-speed automatic transmission.

2025 Nissan Frontier Electric Release Date and Price

The 2025 Nissan Frontier Electric is still just a rumor, but we presume it would eventually arrive sometime in 2024. There’s no doubt that the starting price would be significantly higher compared to the gasoline-powered model, which is available at around 30.000 dollars.
