Once a super-capable off-roader, today also one of the most luxurious SUVs on the market – the G-Wagen has been a legend for a very long time and it will continue to be even after the era of internal combustion engines ends. Namely, the successor is almost ready and it will come as the 2024 Mercedes-Benz EQG, with a completely electrified powertrain.

At this point, we are mostly relying on the 2021 concept, which brought familiar styling that doesn’t differ much from the original. On the other hand, we count on the implementation of various new technologies, particularly in terms of electrification. Capable electric motors, respectable range and advanced battery technology are some of the things that come to mind. All that should come in a combination with G-Wagen’s well-known features.

The latest reports suggest that the new 2024 Mercedes-Benz EQG could arrive already by the end of this year, though 2024 sounds more likely in our opinion.

As we’ve just mentioned, we are currently relying mostly on the 2021 concept and we are pretty sure that the production version won’t be much different. Simply, that concept came with G-Wagen’s well-known look, with a familiar boxy shape that has been characterizing this model for decades. Of course, there are a few new details as well, which accentuate the model’s all-electric nature. That particularly refers to the new LED lighting groups, which are particularly prominent at the front end.

In terms of mechanics, some things may still be unknown but what we know is that this will be a proper SUV, with a body-on-frame platform that includes a proper ladder frame. Also, expect a mix of suspension solutions that will make this SUV competent both on and off the road. Therefore, the front end will come with a pretty refined multi-link suspension, while the rear axle will be more rigid and feature a solid setup.

Interior

On the inside, 2021 brought a typical Mercedes-Benz design. The dashboard looks rather similar to the rest of the current lineup, instead of accentuating the model’s all-electric nature. These days, it looks like all-electric cars tend to offer futuristic designs, which are minimalistic and completely digitalizes. This one looks like a real refreshment, as a blend of classic G-Wagen design and more tech features.

Considering that the new model will feature the same shape and proportions as the original, we may expect to see a similar amount of space. Although the new model will feature a body-on-frame platform, there will be enough space for the batteries to be placed under the floor, so the passenger area shouldn’t be compromised. Therefore, we count on a typical two-row setup, with a capacity of five passengers. The cargo area should offer similar numbers as well.

At this point, details about the powertrain are unknown, at least when it comes to the exact power figures. On the other hand, we know for sure that there will be four electric motors, one for each wheel, which promises excellent off-road performance. This should be a setup for range-topping models, while other, more basic setups with fewer electric motors are possible too.

Details about the battery pack are still unknown, though some sources speculate about the 108-kWh battery pack from the EQS, which features a capacity of 108-kWh. Some sources suggest that the new 2024 Mercedes-Benz EQG would require a bigger battery to provide a respectable range. In any case, we expect that the all-electric G-Wagen will be able to make around 300 miles on a single charge. Also, the battery should feature a respectable 350-kW charging speed, with the ability to recharge 80 percent of the battery in about half an hour.

2024 Mercedes-Benz EQG Release Date and Price

The officials are still quiet about the 2024 Mercedes-Benz EQG release date but most sources suggest that the production could start sometime in the next year. The price will certainly be high, notably higher compared to the current internal-combustion model, which starts at around 140.000 dollars.
