The Korean manufacturer has just released its first pickup truck and the initial reception went pretty well. The Santa Cruz is praised for its refinement, interior quality, overall practicality and performance. However, the company wants to make it even better, so updates are on the way. Allegedly, big novelties are coming for the 2024 Hyundai Santa Cruz, which will bring hybrid powertrain options to the offer. Some sources also speculate about styling updates but we think it’s still early for such updates.
Instead, the overall layout will remain the same. The 2024 Hyundai Santa Cruz will continue to deliver smooth and comfortable ride, as well as a spacious and pretty luxurious interior design. Furthermore, the list of standard equipment is pretty long, while we also like the optional turbocharged engine very much.
Considering the potential powertrain updates, we presume that the launch date could happen a little bit earlier than usual, though still within the second half of 2023.
2024 Hyundai Santa Cruz Will Get Hybrid Powertrain
If we can trust unofficial reports, the 2024 Hyundai Santa Cruz will come with hybrid powertrains in the offer. We presume that the Korean manufacturer would come up with two familiar setups. Base hybrid models would come with a classic setup, which is based on a 1.6-liter turbo-four engine, which gets help from a single electric motor, for a combined output of 226 horsepower.
A PHEV version should be offered as well. This system is also based on a 1.6-liter turbo-four but gets with a more powerful electric motor, so the combined output goes up to 261 horsepower. Besides more power, this system also comes with a much bigger battery, so we expect that the Santa Cruz in this configuration will be able to make around 30 miles in the all-electric mode.
2024 Hyundai Santa Cruz Engines
The rest of the powertrain lineup will remain unchanged, so you may count on two familiar gasoline units. Base models will continue with a simple and reliable 2.5-liter inline-four, which puts out around 191 horsepower. It has enough power to satisfy most drivers but we believe that the optional turbo-four is a much better choice. It puts out around 281 horsepower, which provides pretty quick acceleration, which takes under 7 seconds to hit 60 mph.
The turbo-four comes standard with all-wheel-drive, while the base engine comes with either FWD or AWD layout. The turbo-four can tow up to 5.000 pounds, while the base engine is good for around 3.500 pounds. The base engine returns around 21 mpg in the city and 27 mpg on the highway. The turbo-four offers the same fuel economy on the highway, though it is slightly thirstier in the city (19 mpg).
2024 Hyundai Santa Cruz Design
While novelties are expected in terms of powertrain, the overall design is expected to remain the same. Simply, this will still be a pretty fresh model, with attractive styling and modern design. It’s still early for updates, so the overall layout is about to remain the same. This small pickup is easy to drive, super smooth and comfortable, thanks to its unibody design. On the other hand, the main drawback of such a design limits max towing capacity.
The same thing is with the interior design, which is arguably one of the strongest points of this pickup. A lot of things are shared with Tucson, so it’s no wonder that you can find super-fine materials and lots of tech features inside this small pickup. Also, the double cab is the only version you can get and it offers a couple of pretty spacious rows, which both accommodate adults with ease.
We are pretty sure that the 2024 Hyundai Santa Cruz will come with a few novelties regarding standard equipment. Still, we are also pretty sure that these changes will be minor, as the current model is already pretty well equipped in its base version. It comes standard with goodies like keyless entry, an 8-inch touch screen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, HD Radio, a six-speaker stereo, Bluetooth, and two USB ports.
We presume that some of the current options could become standard. The current list of available features is very long and includes things like a 10.2-inch touch screen with wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 10.2-inch digital gauge cluster, navigation, satellite radio, an eight-speaker stereo, wireless device charging, two additional USB ports, dual-zone automatic climate control, a digital key, push-button start, remote start, a sunroof, and ambient lighting.
2024 Hyundai Santa Cruz Release Date and Price
We expect that the 2024 Hyundai Santa Cruz will arrive sometime in the second half of 2023. The current model starts at around 24.000 dollars and we don’t expect to see a bigger increase in the future. Ford Maverick will remain the key competitor.
