From what we know so far, the biggest change will be the deletion of two exterior color options. Other than that, we will see a new entry-level trim level called “Pro”. Naturally, there is always a chance to see a few additions in terms of standard equipment but we definitely don’t expect too much in this aspect.
You may count on a familiar layout and characteristics. The 2022 GMC Sierra 2500HD will continue to offer a good balance between comfort and capabilities, with a couple of solid powertrain options. Of course, the outdated interior design will remain one of the issues, but we don’t believe that this bothers too many drivers. They are more interested in the truck’s excellent camera trailing system.
As there are no significant changes to come, we presume that the next year’s model will hit the market sometime late in the year.
2022 GMC Sierra 2500HD Redesign
As we’ve just mentioned, the biggest change for the next year will be the deletion of two color options. Those are Brownstone Metallic and Carbon Black Metallic. As a replacement, the company will introduce one new finish, called Forest Metallic.
Other than that, things will remain the same. You may count on the same design, which is based on GM’s latest T1 platform. Of course, a lot of parts are shared with the light-duty 1500 model, but this particular truck comes with a significant suspension upgrade and few more modifications. Also, the styling looks a little bit more rugged and it is definitely one of the truck’s strongest points.
Interior
The cabin design won’t change for the next year, despite the rumors. We are about to see the same interior, which may be carried over from the previous generation but doesn’t look all that bad. Yes, it may not look as fancy as the one in Ram 2500, but the cabin is perfectly functional and offers good ergonomics, plenty of space etc.
Of course, you may count on five familiar configurations in the offer. Base models come with a Regular Cab and Long Bed, while Double and Crew Cab models are available with both Standard and Long Bed sizes.
2022 GMC Sierra 2500HD Engines
This aspect definitely won’t bring novelties and the 2022 GMC Sierra 2500HD will continue with two familiar engines in the offer. Base models will carry on with a 6.6-liter V8, which comes in pair with a 6-speed automatic transmission and puts out around 401 horsepower and 464 pound-feet of torque.
Of course, there is also a 6.6-liter Duramax turbodiesel, which puts out 445 horsepower and 910 pound-feet of torque. This engine comes in pair with a new 10-speed automatic gearbox.
When it comes to towing capacity, diesel is certainly a better choice. Regular Cab models with an RWD layout can tow up to 18.510 pounds. The same model with a gasoline engine can tow up to 17.370 pounds.
Trim Levels
Another novelty worth mentioning is a new base trim level called Pro. We still don’t know the details but we presume this model will replace the current base version that is simply called Sierra. We count on a similar list of standard equipment, which is pretty basic. It includes things like steel wheels, manual accessories, vinyl upholstery and a 7-inch touchscreen.
The rest of the trim level organization should remain the same. Therefore, the first upgrade will come with the SLE badge. This model adds goodies like alloy wheels, power accessories, cruise control, brake trail controller, cloth upholstery, Wi-Fi hotspot, satellite radio and more.
The SLT is next in the line. This trim level adds things like an 8-inch touchscreen, bigger wheels, all-terrain tires, leather upholstery, heated seats and steering wheel, dual-zone climate control, power-adjustable driver’s seat, wireless smartphone integration and many more.
Of course, you may also count on the well-known Denali model, which brings not just more standard equipment, but also a number of unique styling details. You may count on unique wheels, grille, steering wheel and more. Also, you may count on premium leather upholstery, premium sound system, navigation, wireless charging, bed camera and many more.
Finally, there is the off-road-focused AT4 model, which brings a lot of off-road upgrades. Of course, 4WD is standard, but you may also count on upgraded suspension, skid plates, hill descent control and many more.
2022 GMC Sierra 2500HD Release date and Price
We expect that the 2022 GMC Sierra 2500HD will hit the market sometime late in the year. Since there are no significant changes, the price should remain pretty similar. Therefore, base versions should be available at around 36.000 dollars.
