Small pickups are becoming popular these days and no, we are not talking about mid-size body-on-frame trucks, but rather about a small crossover-based vehicle. The new Ford Maverick is on the way, as well as Hyundai Santa Cruz. So, we don’t see the reason why Ram would offer something similar as well. Some rumors suggest that the 2022 Ram 700 could arrive in North America.
At this point, this tiny pickup is available only in South America, in countries like Brazil. In certain markets, it comes as Fiat Strada. Therefore, we presume that the North American version would probably come with a few upgrades, especially in terms of powertrain. The officials are still quiet about this model.
2022 Ram 700 Redesign
When it comes to base design characteristics, we don’t believe that the 2022 Ram 700 would be much different in North America. The current, second generation has just arrived and it offers a lot of good things. One of them is a pretty good ride quality, which is no wonder considering that this pickup is actually based on an MC-P modular platform, which underprints a number of passenger cars.
In terms of size, this is a pretty compact vehicle, with just 176 inches in total length. Such a size would make it a perfect light commercial vehicle, as well as a great bargain choice for those who are looking for a light adventure. It also offers a decent payload capacity of around 1,652 pounds.
Exterior and Interior Designs
We presume that the North American version would come with a couple of styling tweaks, but the overall look would remain the same. In other words, we would see a familiar styling, which looks pretty much the same as Fiat Strada. Practically, the only major difference is at the front, where you can notice a different grille design, characterized by a lot of black plastics. We presume that both single and double cab versions would be offered.
Considering the size, we wouldn’t expect to see an impressive level of comfort. The amount of space would be limited and if we consider that the price would probably be quite affordable, we don’t expect changes in terms of dashboard design either. In other words, the cabin would be made mostly from hard plastics and similar materials, though we would expect to see a few additions in terms of tech features, compared to the Brazilian version.
2022 Ram 700 Engines
The biggest changes we would probably see for the 2022 Ram 700 in North America are those in terms of powertrain. Simply, the most powerful version in Brazil is good for just 95 horsepower. Therefore, we count on notable upgrades. Some sources suggest a bigger 1.8-liter from Fiat, which puts out around 130 horsepower. Also, we can hear a lot of stories about the possibility to see a 1.3-liter turbo-four from Renegade. This one delivers nearly 180 horsepower.
We would definitely expect to see a new transmission as well. The South American model comes with a 5-speed manual and we are pretty sure it would be replaced with an automatic gearbox. The 4WD versions are expected as well.
2022 Ram 700 Release Date and Price
If we can trust rumors, the 2022 Ram 700 could hit the North American market already in the next year. On the other hand, the officials are still quiet, so we suggest you take these reports with a big reserve. If it arrives, we presume that the starting price would go under 15.000 dollars.
