By Ford is one of the leading companies when it comes to sales numbers and a big part of these numbers go to pickup trucks. Last year, the Blue Oval company sold over one million pickups. Of course, those were mostly the F-150 model and its relatives, but the smaller Ranger makes some decent numbers as well. The company doesn’t plan to stop there but rather prepares another pickup truck, a compact one. It will be the smallest pickup in the lineup and the latest reports suggest it will come as the 2022 Ford Maverick.
At this point, we don’t know too many details about the new pickup but the latest reports suggest it will feature a unibody layout, based on some of the company’s popular crossover. The new model is expected to hit the market sometime in the next year.
2022 Ford Maverick Redesign
When it comes to base design characteristics, the most important thing we should mention is that this won’t be a traditional pickup truck. It won’t ride on a body-on-frame platform, but rather on a car-like, unibody platform. Most likely, it will borrow the platform from models like Ford Escape, which means it will be compact in size and pretty efficient.
When it comes to the exterior design, we count on a typical truck layout, while it’s still unclear which body styles will be in the offer. We presume that both single and double cab variants will be in the offer. When it comes to the front end, we presume a lot of inspiration will be taken from bigger counterparts, though we could see some influence from models like the new Bronco etc.
Interior
On the inside, things will largely depend on the model on which the new 2022 Ford Maverick will be based. As most sources suggest Escape, we presume that the dashboard design will be pretty similar. This means that the cabin would look very nice and attractive, pretty car-like, with nice materials, attractive aesthetics and lots of standard and available equipment. That would be pretty much the same approach Honda has with Ridgeline, thought this model will be notably smaller. IT will be compact in size, so we presume that its biggest rival could be the also upcoming Hyundai Santa Cruz.
In terms of the cabin size, with expect to see both single and double cab layouts. The double-cab model should be able to accommodate adults in both rows, though we don’t expect to see some spectacular level of comfort for the rear passengers.
2022 Ford Maverick Engines
When it comes to the powertrain, things are pretty clear. The new 2022 Ford Maverick will rely on the company’s familiar units, capable and efficient EcoBoost engines. Base models will probably come with a 1.5-liter unit, which puts out around 180 horsepower. On the other side, we expect that higher trim levels will come with a bigger and more powerful 2.0-liter turbo-four, which delivers around 250 horsepower. Both engines are capable and both offer more than a decent level of efficiency.
We could see a hybrid version in the offer as well. This model would feature a system that combines a 2.5-liter gasoline engine with an electric motor, for a total output of 198 horsepower.
2022 Ford Maverick Release Date and Price
At this point, we are still waiting for more precise details about the 2022 Ford Maverick release date. However, we are pretty sure that the new model will arrive sometime in the next year. When it comes to the price, we presume that the new pickup would go somewhere around 25.000 dollars, roughly.
