2022 Ford Ranger Plug-In Hybrid Is On the Way!

0

The Blue Oval company is currently all-about electrification. There are several new models to come fully electric or with a hybrid powertrain in the next couple of years. One of them is the 2022 Ford Ranger Plug-In Hybrid. The next generation of Ford’s compact pickup truck is in works and it is about to bring a plethora of novelties. The most important is certainly a new electrified powertrain, which will bring significant improvements in all aspects. Of course, we count on changes in other aspects as well. A completely new design is on the way, with big novelties both outside and on the inside. We expect to see the new model sometime in the next year.

Without any doubt, the biggest novelty for the next-generation Ranger will be a plug-in hybrid powertrain. We are about to see a completely new system, never used in any other Ford model before. It will be different compared to setups that are currently used in models like Fusion and Explorer. It will be based on a 2.3-liter turbo-four, which will get a significant electric power and torque boost. The total output will go up to 362 horsepower and 502 pound-feet of torque. These are pretty impressive numbers, so we count on great driving dynamics and overall capabilities.

The engine will come coupled with a new 10-speed automatic transmission. On the other side, details about things like all-electric range, fuel economy, or charging options are still unavailable.

In terms of base design characteristics, the 2022 Ford Ranger Plug-In Hybrid won’t be much different compared to gasoline and diesel models. We are talking about a complete overhaul, which is about to happen in the next year. Once again, the Australian department took charge of the whole process. The new model will come with completely new mechanics, which should provide significant improvements in all aspects, including both better performance and working capabilities. Of course, the same thing refers to the overall level of comfort.

When it comes to aesthetics, we don’t expect to see anything radical. We will rather see an evolutionary design, with the familiar overall shape and proportions. On the other side, the biggest changes will come at the front, where we expect that the new model will follow the brand’s latest design language and borrow many details from the upcoming next-generation F-150.

Interior

This is where we expect to see big changes. The current model looks okay, but many rivals feature nicer cabins. That’s why we expect to see improvements in the dashboard design, both in terms of materials and aesthetics. The latest reports also suggest that the new generation will come with the company’s latest infotainment system, which includes the new 12.8-inch vertical screen on the center stack, as well as wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay smartphone integration. Furthermore, we also count on a large 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, similar to the one you can find in the new Mustang Mach-E.

2022 Ford Ranger Engines

Besides the new plug-in hybrid version, the new Ranger will also come with several internal-combustion engines in the offer. As we are talking about a model that is available all around the world, diesel engines will be included as well. Most likely, base models will come with a familiar 2.0-liter turbo-four, which puts out around 210 horses and 370 pound-feet of torque. A 3.0-liter V6 turbodiesel is also expected. It delivers 250 horsepower. On the other side, the gasoline lineup will certainly include a familiar 2.3-liter turbo-four, which could come with the available Upgrade Pack.

We expect to see 2022 Ford Ranger Plug-In Hybrid sometime in the second half of the next year. Currently, there are no hybrid pickup trucks on the market, but presume that models like Toyota Tacoma will come with similar setups in the near future.
