By The current generation of Ram’s HD models has been around for a while and despite it’s still very competitive, the competition is getting updates. For example, Chevy Silverado HD is about to get a massive powertrain upgrade, so Ram might bring some updates as well. Some sources speculate about a mid-cycle refresh, which would come with the 2024 Ram HD. The officials are still quiet.
If this update is about to happen, we presume that the focus would be on aesthetics. The new model would come with some styling changes, while mechanical upgrades are possible too. This particularly refers to the diesel version, which will get a slight power upgrade, and maybe a new transmission. On the other hand, we don’t expect to see bigger changes on the inside, though a couple of new features are always possible.
The 2024 Ram HD should arrive sometime in the second half of 2023.
2024 Ram HD Design
As we already mentioned, the current generation has been around for a couple of years, so it feels quite fresh in most aspects. However, we believe that the company will tend to make it even more competitive and therefore, we might see some styling updates. Still, we presume they would be subtle, with main modifications at the front. In this area, we expect to see a few tweaks to parts like headlights, grille, bumper etc.
On the other hand, the chassis and suspension setup should remain untouched. Simply, the current model is already pretty impressive in this aspect, as it offers a fantastic balance between utility and comfort. Its suspension setup is very refined and offers great comfort but at the same time, the max towing and payload capacities are impressive.
2024 Ram HD Engines
When it comes to the powertrain, we presume that the current unit will remain on offer. The base 6.4-liter HEMI V8 will probably carry on without bigger changes, with a max output of 410 horsepower and 429 pound-feet of torque. Also, this engine comes coupled with a smooth-shifting 8-speed automatic transmission.
On the other hand, we might see some changes in the diesel version. Allegedly, the 2500 HD will finally become available with a more powerful variant of the 6.7-liter inline-six turbodiesel from Cummins. So far, this version was available only with 370 horsepower and 850 pound-feet of torque, while the 3500HD was also available with the version with 420 horsepower and 1.075 pound-feet of torque. Many believe that both versions could get some power and torque upgrades, especially if we consider that the Silverado HD will get a significant upgrade of its diesel unit.
Finally, there is the matter of transmission. For a long time, we’ve been hearing rumors about the new transmission for diesel. The current model uses a 6-speed unit from Aisin, which does a great job but feels a little bit outdated when compared to rival models, which both come with 10-speed units. That’s why many believe that the new transmission could be introduced in the near future, even though the officials are still quiet on this matter.
Interior
On the other hand, we don’t expect to see bigger changes on the inside. The current model already looks pretty nice in this aspect, better than rivals in terms of build quality, materials etc. What’s particularly amazing about this truck is the suspension setup. Combined with very good sound insulation, it provides a level of comfort unknown to any other HD pickup on the market. There is also a pretty long list of tech features, though we might see a few updates in this aspect.
Of course, we don’t expect to see any changes regarding cab styles and bed sizes on offer. So, you may count on three familiar cab designs, Regular Cab, Crew Cab and Mega Cab. Also, there are two bed sizes on offer, standard 6-foot 4 inches and a long 8-foot bed.
2024 Ram HD Release Date and Price
We expect to see the 2024 Ram HD models sometime in the second half of 2023, with a starting price of around 43.000 dollars. Of course, Ford Super Duty and Chevy Silverado HD models will remain the key competitors.
