2024 Chevrolet Silverado EV: What We Know So Far

0

The whole pickup world is going toward electrification and despite the pretty big number of startup companies that are coming up in with their all-electric pickups, it’s extremely hard to imagine this segment without the Big Three. Ford’s all-electric F-150 Lightning is pretty much ready, while Chevy’s EV pickup will arrive soon after. According to the latest reports, that will happen already in the next year, when we expect to see the all-new 2024 Chevrolet Silverado EV.

The new pickup is relatively close to production, so it’s no wonder that many things about the new pickup are already familiar. We know about the base design, while interior details have been circulating around for a while. Most importantly, we know most of the details about the powertrain and battery are already known.

2024 Chevrolet Silverado EV Powertrain

The most interesting thing about the new 2024 Chevrolet Silverado EV will certainly be its powertrain. From what we know so far, there will be at least two configurations on the offer. Base models will come with a 510-hp setup, while the higher trim levels should feature increased max output to 664 horsepower. In both cases, all-wheel drive will be standard, as we as four-wheel steering. The base version should be able to tow around 8.000 pounds, while the more powerful model should be good for about 10.000 pounds.

When it comes to the battery setup, the latest reports suggest a 200-kWh pack, which should provide a max range of up to 400 miles. Also, keep in mind that the new pickup will feature GM’s new Ultium battery technology, which will bring many benefits, including fast charging. According to Chevy officials, you may count on about 100 miles of range every 10 minutes.

2024 Chevrolet Silverado EV Design

Design-wise, the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado EV will share many of its parts with the GMC Hummer EV. Still, it will be significantly cheaper. It will be slightly smaller and from what we know so far, it will be offered in a crew cab layout only. Visually, you may expect a lot of resemblance with the conventional Silverado, especially at the front.

Of course, this particularly refers to the parts like headlights. On the other hand, the grille will be completely covered with black plastics, accentuating the truck’s all-electric nature. Some of the higher trim levels, such as the RST, will come with several upgrades, such as air suspension, 24-inch wheels etc. On the other hand, the TrailBoss model will come with off-road upgrades like locking differentials, all-terrain tires and similar things.

Interior

As we already mentioned, the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado EV will probably come in a crew-cab layout only, which should offer plenty of interior room. The all-electric Silverado is about to come at a pretty affordable price, so we don’t expect to see some spectacular interior quality.

Still, from what we can see on rendering photos, the cabin looks more than decent. It misses the simplistic/futuristic dashboard design of most EV trucks but on the other hand, it comes packed with a couple of screens. Base models will come with an 11-inch infotainment screen and an 8-inch digital instrument cluster. Higher trim levels will come equipped with a 17-inch infotainment screen and an 11-inch digital instrument cluster.

2024 Chevrolet Silverado EV Release Date and Price

We expect that the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado EV will arrive sometime in the next year. From what we know so far, base versions are will go around 42.000 dollars, while the range-topping models will enter the six-figure territory. Key competitors will be models like Ford F-150 Lightning, Tesla Cybertruck etc.
