2022 GMC Canyon Preview: Denali, Release date, Redesign

0

After the recent update, it is expected that the current generation of this compact pickup will remain in production for a few more years. Therefore, it’s pretty clear that the 2022 GMC Canyon will come without more important changes. We are about to see a familiar layout, though there is always a chance to see smaller updates in terms of new colors and features.

Still, the overall design will certainly remain the same. So, you may count on a well-rounded pickup truck, which may not feature the fanciest design or cabin layout, but offers excellent working capabilities. Also, you may count on a very user-friendly infotainment system, which isn’t often the case in this segment. The 2022 GMC Canyon should hit the market sometime late in the year.

2022 GMC Canyon Redesign

As we’ve just mentioned, the best we could see new for the 2022 GMC Canyon are new color options. Other than that, the design is about to remain the same. Therefore, you may count on a pickup truck that shares mechanics with Chevy Colorado and offers equally impressive performances, thanks to the perspective T1 platform that kept this design competitive, even though it’s nearly a decade old.

When it comes to the styling, the recent refresh has brought a couple of tweaks, particularly at the front. There, we saw revisions to the grille and bumper, while the Denali trim now looks more exclusive than before. However, the biggest novelty of the recent update was the introduction of the AT4 model. This is an off-road version of the truck. It will also continue in the same way, offering several exclusive features, such as 31-inch Goodyear Wrangler DuraTrac tires, electronically limited slip rear differential, skid plate etc. It also comes with an exclusive exterior design, characterized by lots of black plastics and other details that accentuate its off-road character.

Interior

While some manufacturers have started to pay more attention to the interior design of their trucks, GMC still sees its model in a more conventional way. Therefore, you won’t find too many fancy details on the inside, but rather a design that’s functional and practical. So, it’s no wonder that most areas feature hard plastics and those aesthetics aren’t particularly attractive.

2022 GMC Canyon Interior

The 2022 GMC Canyon will continue in three familiar cab layouts, along with 5-foot-2-inch and 6-foot-2-inch bed lengths. We don’t expect bigger changes in terms of standard equipment either. The current model comes standard with goodies like a 7-inch touch screen, six speakers, two USB ports, Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. Additionally, you can get goodies like an 8-inch touch screen, wireless device charging, a seven-speaker Bose stereo, satellite radio, HD Radio, additional USB ports, a Wi-Fi hot spot, automatic climate control, keyless entry etc.

2022 GMC Canyon Engines

This aspect definitely won’t bring changes and the 2022 GMC Canyon will carry on with three well-known powertrain options. Base models feature a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine, which puts out around 200 horsepower. It seems more than capable for an average drive, though the optional V6 is definitely worth the extra money. This engine puts out around 310 horsepower and provides some pretty impressive performances and capabilities.

The turbodiesel is also a great choice, as it is both very capable and very economical. It puts out around 181 horsepower and a massive 369 pound-feet of torque. This is enough to ensure class-leading towing capacities, which can go up to 7.700 pounds if you pick the right configuration.
