2024 GMC Canyon Redesign: Changes, Specs, AT4X

GM prepares big novelties in the segment of mid-size pickups, as both Colorado and Canyon are about to get redesigned. According to the latest reports, the new version of GMC’s pickup will hit the market sometime in the first half of 2023, as the 2024 GMC Canyon. The new model is in the final stage of development and from what we can see, it is about to bring all kinds of amazing novelties and improvements.

Compared to the outgoing generation, it will come with a completely new, more attractive styling, as well as a much nicer interior. Of course, improvements will happen in every aspect, including the powertrain, where we are about to see the new turbo-four powertrain option. It looks like the new engine will come in three output variants. Also, we will finally see the off-road performance version with all kinds of off-road upgrades, as the AT4X.

As we’ve just mentioned, the 2024 GMC Canyon will arrive with significant changes and upgrades. Still, it will continue to ride on the same, though significantly updated platform. Compared to the previous generation, it will feature significant chassis upgrades, including the new suspension setup, which will have a highly positive impact on ride quality. At the same time, the max towing capacity won’t be compromised at all.

Of course, this redesign will also bring a completely new styling and from what we can see, the overall shape seems kinda familiar. On the other hand, the front end come with much more attractive lighting groups, a much bolder grille, a new bumper etc. All this makes the Canyon look way more appealing than before.

Interior

The improvement is probably even bigger on the inside. While the previous generation was often criticized for a non-appealing interior, that definitely can’t be said for the new 2024 GMC Canyon. Things look way more upscale now, thanks to the very elegant dashboard design. If features a pretty stylish shape, which is complemented by much nicer materials. Of course, there are also new tech features, which make everything look even nice. There is a pretty massive 11.3-inch infotainment screen, while the instrument cluster comes in two sizes. Base models will feature an 8-inch unit, while the higher trim levels will come with a bigger 11-inch cluster.

While the outgoing generation is available with three engines, the new one will come with just one. The new 2.7-liter turbo-four is about to replace the entire lineup but that doesn’t mean that the new model won’t be configurable in terms of the powertrain. From what we know so far, the new turbo-four will be offered in three versions, with three different power figures.

Base models will feature a max output of 237 horsepower and 259 pound-feet of torque, which seems decent enough for a standard version. When it comes to upgrades, higher trim levels will come with a version that puts out around 300 horsepower. Finally, the new AT4X will come standard with a version that puts out around 310 horsepower.

All versions will come equipped with 8-speed automatic transmission. The max towing capacity will go up to 7.700 pounds, so the new model will be as capable as its predecessor.

2024 GMC Canyon AT4X

One of the biggest novelties of this redesign will be the addition of the 2024 GMC Canyon AT4X. This will be a high-performance version of the pickup, which will come with all kinds of upgrades. We already mentioned the more powerful engine. Also, you may count on significant mechanical upgrades, starting from the new suspension and a 3-inch lift kit. Furthermore, this model will also come with 33-inch tires, as well as with all kinds of off-road upgrades, such as a locking differential, two-speed transfer case, skid plates etc. Naturally, there will be a couple of visual upgrades as well, which will accentuate the model’s performance character.

Also, the company will offer the Edition 1 package, which will add various extra features, such as additional cameras, upgraded bumpers, light bars, a winch, and 17-inch beadlock-capable wheels.

The 2024 GMC Canyon is expected to arrive sometime in the first half of the next year, while the base price is yet to be announced. On the other hand, we know that the new AT4X will cost around 58.000 dollars. The competition will remain the same, with models like Toyota Tacoma, Ford Ranger, Nissan Frontier etc.
