2023 Toyota Hilux Redesign: What We Know So Far

0

The current generation of the ultimate pickup is still marking pretty impressive sales numbers but the latest reports suggest big changes for the next year. Simply, the current generation has been around since 2015 and it won’t get any younger. That’s why we expect that the 2023 Toyota Hilux will come completely new. Many competitors are notably younger, while some of them will get their overhaul soon. So, Toyota doesn’t want to risk its reigning position and the new generation is already in development.

At this point, we don’t know much about the next-generation model. However, we are pretty sure it will be based on the company’s new platform and that it will share some parts with the new Land Cruiser 300. Of course, we also count on a completely new design, as well as on new engine options, as well as a high-performance version.

The upcoming redesign will bring a lot of novelties and the first thing that comes to mind is the platform. Of course, we have no doubt that the Japanese manufacturer is about to use the same TNGA-F architecture, the same one that underprints the new Tundra, Land Cruiser and Lexus LX. As you may presume, it will be downsized for this occasion, but we have no doubt it will bring notable improvement regarding ride quality, off-road performance and overall performance.

This redesign will also bring a new styling and we have no doubt that a lot of inspiration will be taken from the new Land Cruiser. This particularly refers to the front end, which should come with the same or similar, bold styling.

Interior

On the inside, we count on the implementation of the latest technologies, such as new infotainment systems and various tech and safety goodies. Furthermore, we expect to see a new, more attractive dashboard design, though we have to say that the current model already looks quite car-like, especially when compared with rivals.

Still, the bigger issue would be the cabin space. Simply, the current model offers less passenger room than most competitors and that particularly affects taller passengers, which can find a bit of trouble when it comes to headroom. We hope Toyota will solve these problems in the new 2023 Hilux.

Just like the current generation, the new 2023 Toyota Hilux will be offered in various configurations, starting from single and double cab layouts, chassis cab versions etc.

2023 Toyota Hilux Engines

Under the hood, the new generation is about to offer a couple of new powertrain options. Of course, the current 2.8-liter turbodiesel should remain the core of the offer, especially after the recent power and torque increase. The smaller 2.4-liter unit should remain on certain markets as well. On the other hand, we count on a new gasoline version. Some believe that could be Toyota’s new 2.4-liter turbo-four, which puts out around 275 horsepower. Also, we count on a new transmission, probably a 10-speed automatic.

Also, there is a big chance to see a hybrid version of the new pickup. That would probably be a different, less capable system compared to the one found in the new Tundra, which offers some pretty impressive numbers. Instead, the Hilux would rather use a system based on a four-cylinder engine.

2023 Toyota Hilux Release Date

At this point, the officials are still quiet about the next-generation Hilux, so it’s hard to talk about a more precise launch date. However, most of us believe that the launch date will happen sometime in 2023. Of course, the competition remains the same and includes models like Ford Ranger, Nissan Navara, Isuzu D-Max etc.
