2022 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro: What to Expect

0

The new generation of Toyota’s full-size truck is on the way and along with it, we are eagerly waiting to see its off-road iteration, in the form of the 2022 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro. At this point, the exact details are still to come but our reliable sources came up with a couple of details they consider a certain thing, even though the officials are still quiet. According to them, the new version will be far more capable than before, ready to compete with the class leaders like Ford F-150 Raptor.

Compared to the standard version, this model will come with a plethora of significant upgrades. Just like the current model, it will feature both exclusive visual details and mechanics. Of course, the first thing that comes to mind is the suspension setup, while a powerful and capable powertrain is another thing we expect to see. The 2022 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro should arrive along with other models in the lineup, sometime late in the year.

2022 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro Design

In terms of base design characteristics, the new 2022 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro won’t be much different compared to the rest of the lineup. It will come with all the novelties that are planned for this redesign, starting from a completely new, body-on-frame version of the company’s new TNGA platform. This one will bring improvements in various aspects, starting from significant weight savings.

Still, those exclusive details feel far more important in this case. Naturally, the first thing that comes to mind is the suspension setup, which will be focused on off-road performances. The current model comes with TRD Pro front shocks, and Fox rear shocks, as well as with notably higher ground clearance. We count on a similar setup in the new model, while 4WD will be standard, of course. Further off-road upgrades in the current model include things like front tow hooks, a front skid plate etc. The new model is about to come with both front and rear locking differentials, which will be shared with the next-generation Land Cruiser.

Naturally, we count on the styling that follows the model’s off-road performances. You may count on upgraded bumpers, wheels, off-road tires and many other things, including exclusive color options.

Interior

If you look at the current model, the cabin isn’t particularly different than the rest of the lineup. We expect that the 2022 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro will come with the same approach. Therefore, you may count on a completely new dashboard design and overall layout, characterized by significantly updated aesthetics and higher quality materials. Furthermore, keep in mind that this is one of the most expensive versions of Tundra, so a long list of standard and available features seems like a certain thing.

Of course, we count on a couple of exclusive details, starting from a black upholstery, red stitching and other typical TRD Pro details.

2022 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro Engines

When it comes to the powertrain, the new generation will come with two new engine options in offer. Base models will use a 3.4-liter twin-turbo V6, which is good for 414 horsepower and 440 pound-feet of torque. Also, we expect to see a hybrid version, which would be a max output of around 450 horsepower and 500 pound-feet of torque. In both cases, the new Tundra would use a new 10-speed automatic gearbox.

We still aren’t sure about the 2022 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro. As we are talking about a hi-performance model, a model that competes with the Raptor, we would expect to see a lot of power. The hybrid option sounds likely. Still, it won’t be a surprise if we see an upgraded version of the twin-turbo V6, with the max output, boosted up to around 450 horsepower. More details should come soon.
