2023 Mitsubishi Triton: New Generation on the Way

0

The new generation of Mitsubishi’s popular pickup is on the way. It’s been in reports for a while and the latest reports suggest that the new model is almost ready for production. At this point, we are still waiting for the official confirmation but it looks like the new model will debut in the first half of the next year, probably in March. It will hit the market as the 2023 Mitsubishi Triton and we count on improvements in various aspects.

What’s interesting about the next-generation Triton is that it will share a lot with the next-generation Navara. The two models will ride on the same platform and have other things in common. However, Mitsubishi will come with its own design, with unique styling and maybe also a different powertrain.

Of course, let’s talk about base design characteristics first. As we’ve just mentioned, the new generation will have a lot of things in common with the next-generation Navara. The two models will ride on the same platform and we expect that the Triton will benefit from this change in some aspects, particularly in terms of a more refined suspension setup and improved ride quality.

On the other hand, the new 2023 Mitsubishi Triton will feature its own, pretty unique styling, which will differ from Navara a lot. This particularly refers to the front end, which will feature the brand’s latest design language, characterized by a more aggressive face with a bigger and bolder grille, more futuristic headlights and more. Just like the current generation, we expect that the new model will also come in two- and four-door variants, while the overall dimensions should be slightly bigger compared to the ongoing model.

Interior

This aspect of the new 2023 Mitsubishi Triton is still a mystery. We still don’t know the details but we certainly expect to see some improvements. The current model looks a little bit old in this aspect, so we would expect to see a more attractive layout, with more attractive aesthetics, more features and nicer materials. Still, we don’t expect to see anything too fancy, but rather a design that will once again put functionality over aesthetics.

As we’ve just mentioned, the new model should carry on with two familiar cab designs, either with a regular cab that accommodates two passengers, or a double cab model that comes with two rows of seats and accommodates up to five passengers. Along with different cab styles, you may count on different bed sizes, depending on the cab style you pick.

2023 Mitsubishi Triton Engines

Considering that the new 2023 Mitsubishi Triton will share the platform with Nissan Navara, another question that comes to mind is the engine. We believe that Mitsubishi will carry on with its 2.4-liter turbodiesel because it is a pretty efficient and pretty refined unit. Moreover, it is also a pretty capable unit, which currently puts out around 133 kW and 430 Nm of torque. Of course, we might see some power increase for this occasion. Another thing we expect to see is a new transmission. We believe that the current 6-speed automatic should be replaced with something more modern, while the 6-speed manual will probably remain on offer without changes.

In some other markets, we expect to see this pickup with different engines on offer, including a good-old 2.4-liter petrol unit.
