2021 Mitsubishi Raider: Rumors and Expectations

0

This name probably sounds familiar to you, as it was used for a pickup truck Mitsubishi was offering in North America in the early 2000s. However, it didn’t last for too long, despite it was generally a pretty decent pickup. Moreover, it featured the same mechanics as Dodge Dakota, while the styling came from Mitsubishi designers and that was probably the weakest point, considering that aesthetics definitely wasn’t a strong point of this model.  These days, it looks like the familiar nameplate could come back, as the 2021 Mitsubishi Raider.

It’s no secret that the Japanese manufacturer is currently focused on crossovers, but the sphere of interest could expand to pickup trucks as well, especially if we consider that Mitsubishi is now part of the Renault Nissan Alliance. The new model could arrive already in the next year.

2021 Mitsubishi Raider Redesign

As we’ve just mentioned, Mitshubishi is mostly about crossovers these days. The only pickup in the offers is L200, which sells pretty well overseas. However, it seems a little bit too small for the North American market. That’s why you probably wonder how the new 2021 Mitsubishi Raider would look like. The answer is the upcoming Nissan Frontier. The popular mid-size pickup is finally getting a redesign, after so many years of waiting. So, the new Raider would feature the same mechanics, riding on Nissan’swell-known F-Alpha platform.

Besides mechanics, dimensions are also about to be the same. On the other side, the 2021 Mitsubishi Raider would feature a little bit of different styling, particularly at the front. We count on a completely different face, which would look a lot like models like L200, Eclipse Cross etc. Of course, there is always plenty of room for some exclusive details as well.

Interior

When it comes to the interior design, we expect that the overall layout will be pretty much the same as in the upcoming Frontier. This particularly refers to the size but refers to the dashboard as well. Pickup trucks don’t feature Spartan interiors anymore, so we expect that the new Raided will follow the same trend and offer a cabin that looks nice and also offers some pretty nice materials. Of course, we count on loads of standard and optional equipment, including the latest tech features.

When it comes to can configurations, we count on both single and double cab layouts. The extended kind of a cab could be offered as well

2021 Mitsubishi Raider Engine

In this aspect, we expect no bigger changes. The 2021 Mitsubishi Raider will use the same setup as the upcoming Frontier, which means a newly-developed V6 engine from Nissan, which has already been presented in the outgoing version of the truck. The engine measures 3.8-liters in displacement and offers some of the highest output ratings in the class. The max power is rated at 310 horsepower, while you may also count a max torque of 281 pound-feet. Power is sent through a new 9-speed automatic transmission, to rear wheels in base models, and to all wheels as an option.

At this point, details about towing capacity are still unavailable. Still, we expect that the new model will be able to tow more than 7.500 pounds in the most capable variants.

2021 Mitsubishi Raider Release Date and Price

The 2021 Mitsubishi Raider could arrive already in the next year, rumors say. However, take this with a big reserve, considering that the officials are still quiet about this truck. If it arrives, we presume the starting price would go around 30.000 dollars, roughly.

The competition in the segment is pretty fierce and some of the key players are models like Toyota Tacoma, Chevy Colorado, Ford Ranger etc.
