2024 Rivian R1T Preview: What to Expect

0

After the company’s latest announcement that suggests that some versions will be delayed, we know for sure that the all-electric pickup will complete the lineup in the next year, year and a half. Therefore, the 2024 Rivian R1T will be the first model year to offer all three battery capacities, along with different setups of electric motors. This means that buyers will finally get a chance to configure the truck in accordance with their preferences, considering that the current model is available in just a single variant.

In any case, you may count on an electric pickup that has so many great things to offer. Of course, there is the matter of electric power and overall performance but this truck is actually much more than that. It comes with good towing capacity and excellent off-road performance. Furthermore, the cabin is spacious, well-equipped and looks very nice.

2024 Rivian R1T Design

In terms of the overall design, no things will change with the 2024 Rivian R1T. It will continue with the same layout, which has so many great things to offer. We like the look very much, which combines futuristic details with some classic design solutions. The truck features over 135 inches in wheelbase, which puts it pretty close to traditional full-size pickups.

What we particularly like is the suspension. It is pretty sophisticated, with an independent multi-link setup on the rear end. Such a design ensures a smooth and comfortable ride but at the same time, all versions are capable of towing more than 11.000 pounds. Of course, there is also the off-road potential, which is pretty impressive, considering that the ground clearance can go all the way up to 14.5 inches. In a normal setting, the clearance is around 8 inches.

Interior

On the inside, things are quite typical for an electric vehicle, with a simplistic dashboard design that offers clean lines in a combination with a couple of massive screens. Most physical controls have been removed, and you can notice a lot of nice materials, including some wood panels, which make this cabin look more upscale.

The cabin is also well-equipped. It comes with a large digital instrument cluster, while there is also an even bigger 16-inch infotainment screen, along with navigation, a premium audio system and more. Interestingly, there is no Apple CarPlay or Android Auto smartphone integration, something you would normally get from pretty much every new car on the market. On the other hand, there is a pretty decent list of standard safety features, which includes automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, and adaptive cruise control.

2024 Rivian R1T Drivetrain and Battery

As we already mentioned, the 2024 Rivian R1T will be the first model year to offer a complete range of configurations. Therefore, you may count on three battery capacities. Base models will come with a 105-kWh battery pack, while the mid-range version will feature a 135-kWh battery. Finally, the range-topping models will come with a 180-kWh battery.  The smallest battery is expected to provide 260 miles of range, while the 135-kWh version is EPA-rated at 314 miles. Finally, the largest battery should provide around 400 miles on a single charge.

When it comes to the drivetrain, base models will come with a dual-motor setup, with one engine on each axle and a total output of around 600 horsepower. On the other hand, high-performance models will continue with a quad-motor setup, where each wheel gets its own electric motor. This quad-wheel drive system provides a max output of around 835 horsepower, which is enough to move this large pickup from zero to sixty in about three seconds.
