2023 Rivian R1T Preview: Warthog, Europe, Specs, Price, Changes, Release Date

The R1T is here and it brings some pretty amazing design solutions. Truck drivers now finally have an all-electric pickup to choose and from what we can see in the initial version, things look pretty good. The new truck is capable and efficient, while most readers are amazed by its performance. The initial version comes with four electric motors, but the latest reports suggest that, for the second production year, the 2023 Rivian R1T would come with a more basic version on the offer, with lower output and a more affordable price.

Whether this happens or not, the 2023 Rivian R1T will continue to offer familiar design characteristics. We like a lot about this all-electric pickup, starting from the acceleration and overall performance. Also, we like the interior design and the overall functionality, while the key complaint goes to the price tag, which is significantly higher compared to traditional pickups.

We expect to see 2023 Rivian R1T sometime in the second half of 2022.

2021 Rivian R1T Specs

2023 Rivian R1T Design

Design-wise, the 2023 Rivian R1T won’t be any different than the initial 2022 model. This is an all-new model, which competes with both full-size and mid-size pickups, as its proportions are somewhere in between. It comes in just one variant, with a crew cab layout and generous passenger area. The cargo bed also offers decent numbers. Besides the pickup, there is also an SUV version, which comes as the Rivian R1S.

The styling is definitely one of the strong points of this pickup. It combines conventional pickup design with lots of futuristic details, and we think that’s the best way to attract a wider range of buyers.

Interior

As we’ve just mentioned, the 2023 Rivian R1T will continue with just one cab style on the offer. That’s a crew cab layout, which offers plenty of space for the passengers. Both rows are comfortable and accommodate adults with ease.

Furthermore, the cabin looks really nice. The dashboard brings a pretty simplistic design approach, which is complemented by a couple of digital screens, which make everything look pretty futuristic. The infotainment screen measures 16 inches diagonally, while there is also a whole bunch of other tech features on the offer. However, smartphone integration features like Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are not included in the offer. That seems a little bit strange from today’s perspective.

On the other hand, there are no worries regarding safety features, as things like forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, adaptive cruise control and many other advanced systems will be on the list of standard equipment.

2023 Rivian R1T Powertrain and Performance

At this point, all R1T models come with the same combination of four electric motors. The total output goes around 800 horsepower, which is enough power to ensure an incredible 0-60 acceleration of just 3.0 seconds. This pickup is fast, but also pretty capable. The max towing capacity goes around 11.000 pounds, while the max payload goes around 1.760 pounds. Many believe that the 2023 Rivian R1T could come with a new, downgraded drivetrain configuration, with less electric motors and less power, which would make this truck far more affordable.

On the other hand, we don’t expect changes regarding the battery offer. Standard models will continue with the 135-kWh package, which provides a max range of around 300 miles. There is also a bigger, 180-kWh battery, which ensures more than 400 miles of the all-electric range.

2023 Rivian R1T Release Date and Price

We expect that the 2023 Rivian R1T will hit the market sometime in the second half of 2022. The price will largely depend on the potential arrival of the less-powerful version. The current model with four electric motors starts at around 68.000 dollars, while the 180-kWh battery costs $10.000 extra. Key competitors will be models like Ford F-150 Lightning, GMC Hummer EV, Tesla Cybertruck etc.
