The Japanese manufacturer doesn’t plan to stop on this and the latest reports suggest we are about to see another update for the next year this time in terms of the styling. Still, keep in mind that the 2022 Toyota Hilux is just a rumor for now and that we are still waiting to hear something from the officials on this matter.

The current generation has been around since 2015 and if we consider the typical lifespan of a pickup truck, there is no doubt it will remain in production for a couple more years. Most likely, the next generation would come sometime in 2024. So far, there were a couple of major updates. There was one facelift, while the last year’s refresh was mostly about mechanics. For the 2022 Toyota Hilux, most sources suggest that the focus would once again be on the styling, in order to keep the truck look fresh.
Of course, this potential visual update would be mostly about the front end. We presume that Toyota would offer a refreshed face, with some revisions in areas like grille, headlights and bumper. Of course, we would also see typical mid-cycle updates, such as new wheels, color options etc. Further introductions of new special versions are also possible.
Interior
We expect that the cabin design would remain the same. The current model already looks pretty good, considering the segment and presume that the company won’t risk making something that may look nicer but may also lose some of its durability. Therefore, count on the same dashboard design and materials, which are mostly hard but durable plastics, as well as on the same overall layout.
Of course, there is always a chance to see novelties in terms of the new standard and available features, but keep in mind that the current model already comes with a fairly decent list of tech and safety features. So, we would hardly see more than a couple of additions in this aspect.
2022 Toyota Hilux Engines
Changes in this aspect definitely won’t happen. The recent update has brought upgrades to the well-known 2.8-liter turbodiesel, which is now more capable than ever. It is now good for about 203 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque, which is a respectable improvement over the previous versions. For those who look something smaller and more affordable, a 2.4-liter turbodiesel with 150 horsepower seems like a good choice for workhorses.
On the other side, the offer of petrol engines is highly determined by the part of the world you’re living in. In most cases, there is a 2.7-liter four-cylinder unit with around 160 horsepower. In some parts of the world, you can also find a large and powerful 4.0-liter V6. Still, keep in mind that this engine is also quite thirsty.
2022 Toyota Hilux Release Date
The 2022 Toyota Hilux facelift is just a rumor for now, but if it happens, we presume that the launch date would be scheduled for a little bit earlier date. In any case, the Hilux will continue to compete with rivals like Ford Ranger, Nissan Navara, Mitsubishi L200, Isuzu D-Max etc.
