2022 Ram Dakota: What We Know So Far

0

The 2022 Ram Dakota is a certain thing, according to the latest reports. If we can rely on the latest rumors, FCA is working on a new mid-size pickup truck, which will come with the familiar nameplate. After several years of hiatus, we are about to see a familiar nameplate once again. This time, we count on a completely new design, which makes the new model compete in the once-again-born segment, where you can find models like Toyota Tacoma, Chevy Colorado, Ford Ranger, Jeep Gladiator and others.

At this point, we are still waiting for the official confirmation. However, the testing model we believe it’s the new Dakota has been spotted on the road and it shows a lot of things, despite the camouflage. In any case, we expect to see plenty of design solutions borrowed from the full-size Ram 1500 model, though most of the mechanics will be actually shared with the Jeep Gladiator. We expect to see 2022 Ram Dakota in the second half of the next year.

2022 Ram Dakota Redesign

When it comes to base design characteristics, the new 2022 Ram Dakota will be a typical mid-size pickup truck. A good thing for Ram is that FCA already has a prepared platform for this pickup. Of course, we are talking about the same architecture that is used for the new Gladiator, as well as for the current-generation Wrangler. Of course, we are talking about a genuine body-on-frame layout, which promises some pretty amazing characteristics when it comes to capabilities and overall performances.

Exterior

The first thing that comes to mind about the exterior is the size. As we’ve just mentioned, this will be a typical mid-size pickup truck and we presume that the overall dimensions will be pretty similar to the Gladiator, which measures over 137 inches. Of course, we are talking about the crew cab model, which is the only cab style available with the Wrangler-based pickup. On the other side, the new 2022 Ram Dakota would probably come in more variants, including a single cab version, with both standard and long bed options.

When it comes to styling, we have no doubt that the new pickup will take a lot of inspiration from the full-size 1500 model. Simply, we count on the same aesthetical approach. Some rendering photos have already appeared on the network and they clearly show the same styling, only in a smaller package. We have no reason to expect anything different in the production model.

Still, time will tell. The current test mule features a complete camouflage and once it takes it off, we will know whether the new pickup truck is about to stick to the familiar approach, we are about to see some experiments.

Interior

On the inside, we expect that the 2022 Ram Dakota will come with some of the best-looking cabins in the class. Even though that isn’t particularly hard, given the fact that most competitors are primarily working machines, we expect Ram designers to put a lot of effort into this aspect of the vehicle. Simply, the expectations are pretty big after the launch of the current-generation 1500, which features a cabin design that is on par with some pretty luxurious crossovers.  Furthermore, we also count on a lot of tech goodies in the new pickup.

When it comes to cab designs, we’ve already mentioned that both single double cab variants will be in offer. Also, we count on both standard and long bed sizes in the offer.

2022 Ram Dakota Engines

When it comes to the powertrain, we have no doubt that the 2022 Ram Dakota will be relying on FCA’s familiar units. Of course, the first one that comes to mind a well-known 3.6-liter V6 Pentastar, which would feature a max output of 285 horsepower for this occasion. Another engine that seems very likely is a familiar 3.0-liter turbodiesel, with a max output of 240 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque. Both engines should come with both manual and automatic transmissions in the offer.

Some sources also suggest the possibility to see the 2022 Ram Dakota with something smaller and less powerful, with a four-cylinder engine, which would make this truck more affordable. Most rivals offer such engines in their base versions, so we expect no different approach from Ram.

2022 Ram Dakota Release Date and Price

The latest reports suggest that the new Dakota could hit the market already in the second half of next year. The price will largely depend on the base engine. If base models come with a V6, the starting price will hardly go under 30.000 dollars.
