0

The 2020 GMC Canyon Denali will be the most luxurious truck in the lineup and the entire mid-size pickup segment. According to some rumors, this is going to be a pioneer in this class. Other companies will also try to enter the premium market. Until then, the Canyon Denali will be the only model in the segment. The good thing about this truck is a Denali is a package to the existing vehicle. It uses the same chassis and engine, while a lot of exteriors and interior upgrades will make it better.

The company is not going to change the standard truck, so we expect mostly unchanged 2020 GMC Canyon Denali. General Motors is preparing the new generations of both twins (Chevy Colorado is the other one) for 2022. Until then, we will see the same trucks on the streets. Only small cosmetic changes are on the way, that is for sure. Also, the company will upgrade the infotainment system and features that will help the driver. GMC brought some interesting equipment for the full-size Sierra, which will be available for the Canyon as well.

Truck’s Standard Equipment

To see what will 2020 GMC Canyon Denali model bring, we will first present standard equipment for the truck. Buyers are getting an 8-inch touchscreen display and a six-way power seat. A 4G LTE is also there. Other notable features are four USB ports, 17-inch screens, tilt/telescoping steering column, and leather steering wheel. Other models will also come with hill assist start, heated leather front seats, larger wheels, and of course, unique details.

2020 GMC Canyon Denali Features

The 2020 GMC Canyon Denali will offer most of the standard equipment you can find in other trims. Or, the truck will upgrade the existing systems. Outside, you will recognize Denali models thanks to all badges around the vehicle. That is in common. The truck will get a unique 20-inch machined alloy wheels. An eight-inch touchscreen display is still standard, but this time it gets navigation. The standard audio system is getting Bose treatment with seven speakers. Chrome steps are available. Inside the bed lays spray-on bedliner. Fog lights bezels are chromed, and exhaust tips are polished for V6 petrol engine configuration.

2020 GMC Canyon Denali Specs

Under the bonnet of the 2020 GMC Canyon Denali is a 3.6-liter petrol engine. This drivetrain is capable to produce 310 horsepower. Compared to the base unit, a 2.5-liter four-cylinder displacement, a V6 makes 110 ponies more. Also, it adds 85 pound-feet of torque for 275 lb-ft total. An eight-speed automatic transmission is sending power to rear wheels by default. Optionally, the engine can send energy to all four corners. Direct fuel injection and dual overhead camshaft are part of the drivetrain system. The petrol version of the Canyon Denali returns 18/25 miles per gallon. Combined, that is just 1 mpg worse than the four-cylinder engine. All-wheel drive makes 20 mpg combined. On the highway, V6 can return the same mileage as the smaller unit. Towing capacity is 7,000 pounds.

Diesel

Besides the V6 petrol unit, the 2020 GMC Canyon Denali also offers the Duramax diesel engine. A 2.8-liter is the same engine Chevy Colorado is using. Power output is 180 horsepower and 370 pound-feet of torque. It maximizes the towing capacity to 7,700 pounds. This is the class-leading number. Besides the hauling capabilities, the Duramax diesel will improve fuel economy. With this drivetrain, Canyon Denali goes 30 mpg on the highway. Also, two-wheel drive and all-wheel drive are options. The advantages of a diesel engine will cost buyers $4,000 more than the standard version.

2020 GMC Canyon Denali Prices

The 2020 GMC Canyon Denali is available only with the Crew Cab configuration. Bed length remains optional. The short box is 61 inches, and the long bed is 74 inches long. The base model with a short bed and four-cylinder engine costs $29,000. A V6 increases the price by $1,500, while the long box adds $1,600. The cheapest Denali trim setup will cost $42,000 (short box, V6 engine). The Duramax diesel engine will have a price tag of $46,000. The long box is around $47,500. Fully loaded, the premium mid-size truck will cost over $52,000.

Competition

The 2020 GMC Canyon Denali is currently the only premium mid-size model in the US market. General Motors also offers Chevy Colorado with a lot of equipment. The most expensive version is the ZR2 model. However, this is the off-road, not the premium model. The same is happening with Toyota Tacoma and TRD Pro. Limited model is the most luxurious in its lineup, but it costs under $40k.

More serious competition will come in the next couple of years. We can hear rumors about BMW and Audi trucks coming to the US market. This is going to be a serious challenge for the Denali section. Mercedes is already producing X-Class, but it is not even close to its luxury SUVs and sedans with premium equipment. The comebacks of Lincoln Mark LT and Cadillac Escalade EXT are still a wish of their old fans.
