Ram 1500 RexRunner Concept: Design and Features

0

The current generation of Ram’s light-duty pickup is one of the most exciting models in the segment. Not only that it offers superior ride quality, but it also comes in a wide range of versions, which includes some pretty exciting models as well. This particularly refers to the monstrous TRX model, which comes with a 702-hp engine and a full load of mechanical and visual upgrades. However, Ram has shown that things could be even more exciting than that. That was accomplished with the Ram 1500 RexRunner Concept.

This concept was presented last year and if can trust the latest reports, it could even enter serial production in the near future. However, we have no doubt that this series would be in very limited numbers. Compared to the standard TRX, this concept came with a full load of modifications and upgrades, both in terms of mechanics and aesthetics.

Ram 1500 RexRunner Concept Design

Without any doubt, the most prominent aspect of the Ram 1500 RexRunner Concept is the exterior design. The first thing you’ll notice is a nice combination of Mopar Blue and Black colors. Furthermore, Mopar Blue accents can be found all around the truck. Hood and roof stripe, Ram grille, TRX bedside graphics, lower bedside stripe, and tow hooks on all four corners – those are just some of the highlights.

Also, you can easily notice new skid plates, with massive “Mopar” lettering. Besides great looks, these plates are also designed in a way that they ensure better approach and departure angles. Blue tow hooks fit perfectly in this area.

The center area of the truck is highlighted by a massive bar behind the cabin, which comes with massive 14-inch rectangular lights. The cargo bed comes with a massive spare wheel with a Toyo tire, while another interesting thing is that there is no tailgate.

The list of accessories is also pretty impressive. You can see things like a bed extender that flips inward, a black spray-in bedliner, a bed-mounted spare-tire carrier, rock rails, black five-inch dual exhaust tips, a retractable bed step, and stainless-steel pedal covers with black rubber pads.

Interior

On the other hand, the interior isn’t filled with exclusive features that much. Most of the cabin is the same as in the TRX model. Still, you can notice a couple of interesting touches. Among them, you can notice molded one-piece door panels and a vinyl floor, which is something that usually comes with the most basic versions of the truck. We presume that the goal of such an approach is to ensure easy cleaning.

The cabin comes in a typical crew cab layout and accommodates five passengers pretty easily. The front seats are upgraded and come with better side support, while the combination of blue and black colors perfectly matches the exterior color combination.

Ram 1500 RexRunner Concept Engine

The officials didn’t come up with too many details about the powertrain. What we know is that the Ram 1500 RexRunner Concept comes with the same 6.2-liter Supercharged V8 engine. Still, we don’t know if the company did any modifications. That clearly indicates that the max output is about to remain the same as in the TRX model. In other words, you may count on 702 horsepower and 650 pound-feet of torque. The engine comes in pair with an 8-speed automatic transmission, which sends power to all wheels.

So, we presume that the Ram 1500 RexRunner Concept will bring similar numbers in terms of acceleration and towing capacity. This pickup should accelerate from zero to sixty in about 3.5 seconds. The max towing capacity should go around 8.100 pounds.
