The Holden brand is gone and now, everyone wonders what will happen with one of its most popular models. Of course, we are talking about Colorado, originally produced by Chevrolet, which has just been redesigned. The new generation is here but it won’t be offered as the 2024 Holden Colorado. Instead, some sources speculate about Chevy’s return Down Under, while others insist that the new generation won’t be sold in this part of the world.
At this point, it’s hard to tell which scenario sounds more likely. Still, if the new model arrives in Australia, it will face pretty fierce competition, led by Toyota Hilux and Ford Ranger. The new generation certainly has a lot of qualities to compete with, starting from the new powertrain, refined interior, lots of features etc.
Rumors suggest that the 2024 Holden Colorado could arrive already by the end of this year. The officials, however, are still quiet.
2024 Holden Colorado Design
So, even though the 2024 Holden Colorado won’t happen, we could see the new truck under Chevy’s badge. In that case, we would see a completely new model, redesigned after a full decade. Of course, there is a completely new design, with a way more attractive styling. The front end follows the brand’s latest design language and takes a lot of inspiration from the full-size Silverado. Interestingly, the new generation is sold only in a crew-cab layout, with four doors and two rows of seats.
In terms of mechanics, we didn’t see a completely new platform with this redesign. Instead, the old one was significantly updated, with the new chassis that utilizes new components and brings notable weight savings. The new generation is also offered in a ZR2 variant, which significant off-road upgrades, such as big Mutlimatic DSSV dampers up front, rear DSSVs that are now mounted to the outside of the frame, two-speed transfer cases, locking differentials and many more.
On the inside, the new Colorado looks significantly better than its predecessor. While the previous model was often criticized for low-rent materials, even by the mid-size pickup standards, the new generation utilizes fine material and offers a way more attractive dashboard design, with elegant and modern aesthetics, combined with a lot of new tech features.
Speaking of the tech features, a large 11.3-inch infotainment screen is part of the standard equipment, along with wireless smartphone integration, wireless charging etc. You can also get things like a digital instrument cluster, while the list of standard safety features is pretty long as well. Some of the highlights are standard forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking lane departure warning, lane keeps assist, adaptive cruise control etc.
As we already mentioned, the only cab style on offer will be the crew cab model, with four doors and five seats, which will come in a combination with a 5-foot bed.
2024 Holden Colorado Engines
The new generation also brings big novelties under the hood. The old gasoline and diesel unit, such as a 2.5-liter inline-four, 3.6-liter V6 and a 2.8-liter turbodiesel are gone and now replaced by a new 2.7-liter turbo-four gasoline engine, which comes in three output variants. The base version of the engine puts out around 237 horsepower and 259 pound-feet of torque. The engine is also available in a variant with 301 horsepower and 390 pound-feet of torque, while the ZR2 gets an additional power boost and puts out around 310 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque.
Also, there is a new 8-speed automatic transmission, which sends power to the rear or all wheels, depending on the configuration. The max towing capacity goes up to 7.700 pounds or 3500kg.
2024 Holden Colorado Release Date and Price
As we’ve just mentioned, the 2024 Holden Colorado won’t happen but on the other hand, there are reports that suggest the new pickup could arrive under Chevy’s badge. Currently, this pickup starts at around 30.000 dollars in North America.
