By The North American most popular compact pickup still makes impressive sales numbers but that can last forever. The current generation has been around since 2015 and it time to think about the redesign. Although we have no doubt that Toyota engineers are already working on the new model, the officials are still quiet about details. On the other side, rumors suggest it could arrive already in a year or two, maybe even as the 2023 Toyota Tacoma.
At this point, the only thing we can do is to speculate about possible changes and novelties. We have no doubt there will be many of them and that refers to chassis, engines, styling, interior and other. Despite the popularity, the current generation has a couple of pretty big drawbacks and we expect from Toyota to fix them in the future.
2023 Toyota Tacoma Redesign
Without any doubt, this redesign will bring a lot of novelties and once the new Tundra arrives, we presume that the officials will come with some details about its smaller sibling. Meanwhile, we can speculate and the first thing that comes to mind is the platform.
Of course, we count on the same platform that is going to underprint the new Tundra, just in a smaller package. We count on a stiffer chassis, on a genuine body-on-frame layout, which will improve towing capacity and other aspects of capability.
We also expect from the new model to bring improvements regarding ride quality. The current model is a little bit too harsh for everyday use and isn’t particularly comfortable on the road. Of course, leaf springs are one of the reasons, so we may see a little bit more complex suspension design in higher trim levels in the future. On the other hand, base versions probably won’t change too much in this aspect.
Exterior
When it comes to the exterior design, we count on a completely new styling. The current model looks good but the new 2023 Toyota Tacoma should borrow many design cues from the new Tundra, which looks really bold. Also, the new model probably won’t be available in a single cab configuration.
:of the offer and won’t feature just visual upgrades, but also a full load of mechanical upgrades. Some of the things that come to mind are off-road suspension, skid plates, locking differentials, hill descent control etc.
Interior
The current model comes with a couple of big drawbacks regarding interior design and we would certainly expect improvements from the next generation. This particularly refers to the amount of space, so the new model should be bigger. The current generation is tight in the second row, while taller passenger have troubles with headroom in the front seats as well. We expect improvements in this aspect.
Of course, the future redesign would also bring changes in terms of the dashboard design. The current one looks good and features a lot of tech goodies. The new 2023 Toyota Tacoma could only get better.
2023 Toyota Tacoma Engines
Probably the biggest changes are expected under the hood. The current model comes with an underpowered base four-cylinder, while the optional V6 isn’t very impressive either. Besides the lack of character, these engines are also thirsty.
Therefore, both of them will probably be replaced. We presume that the new 2023 Toyota Tacoma would come with a turbo V6 under the hood, with more than 300 horsepower. Still, that probably won’t be the only engine option on the offer. We could easily see a hybrid variant on the offer as well. At this point, it’s still early for details.
Besides new engines, the 2023 Toyota Tacoma should also come with new transmission. Instead of the current 6-speed transmission, we presume the new model will feature a 10-speed unit. More details should come in the near future.
2023 Toyota Tacoma Release Date and Price
We expect that the 2023 Toyota Tacoma could come in a year or two. It’s still early for the price estimates, but we believe base models could cost under 30.000 dollars. Key competitors are models like Chevy Colorado, Ford Ranger, Nissan Frontier etc.
