2023 Ford Ranger EV: What We Know and What We Expect

0

The new generation of Ford Ranger is on the way. We are about to see a completely new pickup, based on the updated T6 platform. At this point, we know for sure it will carry on with gasoline and diesel units, as well as that a hybrid version will be introduced. However, some sources also speculate about the 2023 Ford Ranger EV, which would be an all-electric version of the pickup. At this point, we don’t know much about this version, except it will probably carry the “Thunder” moniker.

The only thing we can do at this point is guessing. The Blue Oval company keeps details a secret, but we may presume that a lot of parts will be shared with the standard Ranger. We also presume that some technologies could be shared with Volkswagen, considering that the new Amarok will be based on the Ford’s mid-size pickup. Many questions are open and we will try to guess some answers in the following paragraphs.

The all-electric Ranger could arrive already in the next year.

As we already mentioned, there is still a full load of open questions for the 2023 Ford Ranger EV. First of all, we presume that most parts will be shared with the standard Ranger. More precisely, the electric Ranger will ride on the same updated T6 platform, which is about to bring various improvements compared to the outgoing generation, particularly in terms of the ride quality.

We presume that the exterior design would be shared as well. The size and the overall share should be pretty much the same, as well as most of the styling. Of course, we presume that the front end would look different, with details that accentuate the model’s all-electric nature.

We presume that the battery will be placed under the floor. So, the ground clearance may be slightly lower, while the cargo bed capacity could be smaller.

Interior

On the inside, we don’t believe that the 2023 Ford Ranger EV would look much different than the regular Ranger. That’s definitely a great thing, considering that the new cabin looks very car-like. We like the dashboard design, as well as the use of quality and soft-touch materials. Also, there is a generous offer of advanced tech features, including a digital instrument cluster, vertically-oriented touchscreen etc.

When it comes to the overall cab layout, we are pretty sure that the all-electric Ranger will be offered only as a crew cab pickup, with two spacious rows of seats that can accommodate adults with ease.

2023 Ford Ranger EV Powertrain and Performance

At this point, details about the powertrain are still a mystery. Still, we presume that the Blue Oval company will offer a couple of different layouts, with one or two electric motors, or maybe even different battery capacities. Also, it is possible to see some cooperation with VW, where the German manufacturer would provide the Ranger with more advanced battery technology, fast charging etc.

It’s still hard to guess the numbers. Still, if we take that the all-electric F-150 puts out around 450 horsepower, we presume that the most capable Ranger Thunder would be good for about 350 horsepower. We also presume that the max towing capacity would go around 7.500 pounds. Finally, we presume that the max range would go around 250 miles.

2023 Ford Ranger EV Release Date and Price

We expect that the 2023 Ford Ranger EV could arrive already in the next year, with a starting price of around 35-40.000 dollars. More details will come in the following months.
