2023 Chevy Silverado 2500HD Is Getting Mid-Cycle Refresh

0

After the recent update of the light-duty 1500 model, it is time for HD models to receive a refresh. From what we know so far, the 2023 Chevy Silverado 2500HD will be the first model from the lineup to receive changes. This will be a mid-cycle update and we expect novelties in various aspects. The refreshed model should arrive sometime in the last quarter of the year.

At this point, details about the facelift are still unclear. The test mule has been spotted on the road and it looks like big styling changes are about to come. Furthermore, we expect changes on the inside as well. Finally, we expect big novelties under the hood, as the diesel engine is about to get a big power upgrade.

Considering that we are talking about a mid-cycle update, the first thing that comes to mind is the styling update. The test mule has been spotted on the road and we can see that a lot of truck has been covered. Of course, most of the camo is at the front, where we expect most changes. We count on a new grille, as well as on a more aggressive bumper design. On the other hand, headlights should remain pretty much the same.

The rear end will bring a couple of tweaks as well. Even though the whole cargo bed area has been covered, we presume that minor changes are the only ones to come, primarily in areas like taillights. Furthermore, we presume that the company will offer new color options.  Mechanically, things should remain pretty much unchanged.

Big changes are coming under the hood as well. From what we know so far, the diesel engine is about to get a significant upgrade. The current version of the 6.6-liter Duramax V8 turbodiesel puts out 450 horsepower and 910 pound-feet of torque. After the upgrade, the max output will go up to 505 horsepower and a magnificent 1085 pound-feet of torque. This power upgrade will certainly improve performances in all aspects.

On the other hand, the gasoline versions will continue in the same way. You may count on a 6.6-liter V8, which puts out 401 horsepower and 464 pound-feet of torque. However, it will get a new transmission, a 10-speed automatic gearbox. However, the latest reports suggest this won’t be the same 10-speed unit from Allison that’s used in the diesel version. More details about this will be known soon.

Interior

We have all witnessed big interior changes in the recent mid-cycle refresh of the light-duty 1500 model. So, the same changes should be implemented in HD models as well. This would mean a completely new dashboard design, with a more attractive design, finer materials and way more tech features. Among tech features, we should mention things like new infotainment screen, new digital instrument cluster etc. Also, the old-school steering-column gear lever would be replaced with a modern shifter on the center console.

Still, the overall cab layout should remain the same. We also count on the same configuration on the offer, which includes three cab styles – Single, Double and Crew. The former comes with a single row of seats, while the other two feature two rows of seats and accommodate up to five passengers.

2023 Chevy Silverado 2500HD Release Date and Price

As we’ve just mentioned, the 2023 Chevy Silverado 2500HD will arrive sometime in the second half of the year, though a more precise date is yet to be announced. We don’t expect to see a bigger price increase compared to the current model, which starts at around 39.000 dollars. Of course, models like Ram 2500 and Ford F-250 will remain key competitors.
