By The current generation of the legendary pickup has been around since 2015 and after the 2020 update, most of us would probably think that there is no room for bigger novelties before the complete redesign. However, Toyota management thinks differently and what we are about to see in the next year is a new version of the popular pickup. We are about to see a performance version, which will come as the 2022 Toyota Hilux GR Sport, reports say. Allegedly, the new model will arrive in October.
From what we know so far, this version will come with several upgrades over the standard model. First of all, we will see an upgraded suspension setup, while new brakes are expected as well. Furthermore, we count lots of unique styling details, which will emphasize the model’s performance character. Interior upgrades are expected as well. On the other hand, things under the hood will remain the same.
2022 Toyota Hilux GR Sport Design
The 2022 Toyota Hilux GR Sport will come to compete with the Ranger Raptor and therefore, it will come with loads of upgrades. Without any doubt, the Japanese manufacturer will bring lots of new styling details, in order to emphasize the model’s performance character. The grille will be all-new, with “Toyota” lettering instead of the brand’s logo, and a new pattern. We also count on new bumpers, new front fascia etc. The rear end could come with some upgrades as well. The test mule still wears a camouflage, so more details will be known once the new model takes off the camouflage.
More importantly, the new 2022 Toyota Hilux GR Sport will come with lots of mechanical upgrades. The first thing that comes to mind is the upgraded suspension. Also, the test mule clearly shows new brake calipers. Furthermore, we have no doubt that this version will come with a full pack of off-road goodies, such as locking differentials, off-road tires, a two-speed transfer case and more.
Interior
Interior upgrades are expected as well. From what we know so far, the cabin design won’t change too much. We will see a couple of new details, such as new upholstery and materials. Also, many parts will be branded with the “GR Sport” logo, starting from a gear shifter, steering wheel, headrests etc. From what we know so far, this version could also come with new sports seats.
Other than that, we expect to see a familiar cabin layout. This version will come exclusively in a Double Cab style and as we are talking about a model that will probably cost a lot, there is no doubt it will come with a long list of standard equipment.
2022 Toyota Hilux GR Sport Engine
Changes under the hood won’t happen. The 2022 Toyota Hilux GR Sport will continue with a familiar, recently-updated 2.8-liter turbodiesel, which puts out around 150kW (203hp) and 500Nm of torque. The power is sent to all wheels via a 6-speed automatic transmission. We expect it will come with all kinds of off-road goodies, starting from selectable traction modes. Furthermore, a two-speed transfer case will be standard, as well as things like locking differentials, skid plates, tow hooks etc.
Some sources suggest the 2022 Toyota Hilux GR Sport could get the Land Cruisers new 3.3 liter V6 turbodiesel, which puts out around 325kW and 700Nm of torque, but chances to see this engine under the hood of Hilux are minimal, we believe.
2022 Toyota Hilux GR Sport Release Date
The 2022 Toyota Hilux GR Sport is expected to arrive this fall, most likely in October. Details about the price are yet to come.
