2022 Chevrolet Silverado EV: What We Know So Far

0

GM has been working on gaining electrification technologies for years and it looks like the time for their materialization has finally come. Of course, we are talking about the most popular segment of the North American automotive industry – pickups. There are already several all-electric pickups that are coming in the near future, including the Silverado’s arch-rival, Ford F-150. Therefore, Chevy won’t wait for too long to give its response and the latest reports suggest we could see it already in the next year. As the official nameplate is still to come, we will call it the 2022 Chevrolet Silverado EV for now.

At this point, we don’t know too much about the new electric pickup truck, but we can make some predictions. Of course, the first thing that comes to mind is the upcoming GMC Hummer EV and how many parts will be shared with this comeback model. Also, we can speculate about things like range, power, overall design etc.

Of course, this is still the first thing that comes to mind when we talk about electric vehicles and the new 2022 Chevrolet Silverado EV is no exception. While it is still early for the exact numbers, we presume that many parts and technologies will be borrowed from the upcoming GMC Hummer. The new pickup/SUV is on the way and its most powerful version is about to feature a setup that delivers a total output of 1.000 horsepower and 1.100 pound-feet of torque.

Naturally, this won’t be the only version in the offer. We have no doubt that the new 2022 Chevrolet Silverado EV will come in several output variants, where the most basic versions would feature a single electric motor and 2WD, which would make this truck affordable and suitable for workhorse purposes as well.

Battery and Range

At this point, we don’t know too much about this aspect either. If you look at the reports about the new GMC Hummer, it looks like it will be able to make around 350 miles on a single charge. That is pretty impressive for a pickup truck but keep in mind that the 2022 Chevrolet Silverado EV should be even bigger and heavier, which indicates a pretty large battery pack.

Some sources suggest a huge 200-kWh battery, which would ensure respectable autonomy. In numbers, that would probably be around 300 miles, which is impressive if we consider the size and weight. Of course, we count on all kinds of charging options, including a fast charger.

2022 Chevrolet Silverado EV Design

This aspect of the 2022 Chevrolet Silverado EV is probably the biggest mystery at the moment. We are pretty sure that the gasoline- and diesel-powered Silverado will remain in production for many more years but something tells us that Chevy will probably tend to mirror this truck in terms of body styles, equipment and overall design. Therefore, one of the most interesting things we heard about the new electric pickup is that it will feature a genuine pickup truck layout, with a body-on-frame platform. The company claims this truck will feature a much higher level of rigidity than the GMC Hummer.

We presume that the new 2022 Chevrolet Silverado EV could also come in different variants in terms of cab style and bed length. Naturally, crew cab models are a certain thing, but there is also a chance to see cheaper variants with a single row of seats.

At this point, it’s still useless to talk about these things, even though some rumors say the new model could arrive already in the next year. More likely, we will have to wait for a little bit longer. In any case, more details will be known once we hear something from the officials

2022 Chevy Silverado PHEV

While we are waiting for the all-electric version of the popular pickup truck, the company is working on a plug-in hybrid version of the current generation. According to the latest reports, this version could debut in the next few months and it would use the powertrain that would be shared with many Cadillac models as well. More details should come in the next couple of weeks.
