After the last-year big update, we have no doubt that the 2021 Ford F-550 will carry on in the same way. Although a chassis cab truck, this model doesn’t sacrifice comfort and ride quality, and that the thing that makes it special. Practically, you get a chassis cab truck with the design characteristics of a super-duty model, which shares a lot of parts with the F-450 model, including no just the technical aspect of the truck, but also things like trim level organization, standard equipment etc. For the next year, we don’t expect to see any particular update, so the 2021 Ford F-550 should hit the market sometime in the last quarter of this year.
2021 Ford F-550 Redesign
As you know, this is a chassis cab, which can be configured in many ways. However, that doesn’t stop it from looking attractive. Moreover, the front end is almost identical to the F-450, especially when it comes to the face. Moreover, the truck also looks largely the same on the inside. You may count on the same cabin design, which isn’t just functional and practical, but also comes with impressive aesthetics and more than the decent quality of materials.
The trim level organization is expected to remain the same for the next year. That means you may count on three familiar versions of the truck – XL, XLT and Lariat.
When it comes to the base XL model, you may count on the essentials, such as vinyl upholstery, 2.3-inch screen on the instrument cluster, classic AM/FM radio and similar things.
The XLT is a bit of an upgrade, which comes with things like 4.2-inch TFT screen, cruise control, Sirius XM radio, 7-speaker audio system, cloth upholstery etc.
The Lariat trim adds things like leather seats, leather-wrapped steering wheel, 8-inch instrument screen, navigation, dual-zone climate control, 10 speaker audio system and many more.
2021 Ford F-550 Engines
When it comes to the powertrain, you may count on three familiar engines in the offer, two gasoline-powered and one turbodiesel unit. When it comes to gasoline units, there is a well-known 6.2-liter V8, which features a max output of 385 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque. Also, there is a new 7.3-liter V8, which is good for about 350 horsepower and 468 pound-feet of torque. Finally, you can get a well-known 6.7-liter V8 turbodiesel, which in this case delivers around 330 horsepower and 850 pound-feet of torque. All three engines come in pair with a 10-speed automatic gearbox.
Those who would like a little bit more capability but want to remain in the world of Super Duty trucks should also consider the new version called F-600. The catch with this truck is that it delivers Medium Duty capabilities, although it is essential a Super Duty model, which is the same as F-550 in so many aspects, including identical dimensions.
There are a couple of things that separate these two trucks. The first thing that comes to mind is suspension and chassis upgrade, as well as a tweaked driveline. Also, there are higher-weight-rated 19.5-inch tires and wheels, which help this truck in achieving pretty impressive 22.000 pounds of max GVWR. This version is expected to hit the market in the summer, while orders are already available.
