By A few months ago, Subaru presented its first electric car, in the form of the compact crossover. The new model is called Soltera and it is developed jointly with Toyota. Now that Subaru has entered the EV segment, they are preparing another interesting thing – a pickup version of Soltera. The 2023 Subaru Solterra Pickup Truck will arrive by the end of this year if we can trust the latest rumors.
The segment of the compact pickup has just been established. The Ford Maverick is already making great sales numbers, while Hyundai Santa Cruz is also doing pretty well. Therefore, we have no doubt that there is plenty of room for an electric car in this segment and if Subaru is about to be first in this class, we are pretty sure it could mark some pretty good sales numbers.
2023 Subaru Solterra Pickup Truck Design
Design-wise, things are pretty much easy to predict. The 2023 Subaru Solterra Pickup Truck will share a lot of things with the Soltera. This compact crossover had a premier a few months ago and it will enter serial production soon. It is pretty much a corporal twin of Toyota bz4X, as the two crossovers share pretty much everything except the front face.
So, we don’t believe that the 2023 Solterra Pickup Truck could bring any surprises in this aspect. It will feature the same front-end design as the crossover, while the main difference will be in the longer wheelbase and cargo bed that replaces the area behind the second row.
Interior
Even though the officials are still quiet, we have no doubt that the 2023 Subaru Solterra Pickup Truck will come exclusively in a crew cab layout. The cabin design should be pretty much the same as in the Soltera crossover. That particularly refers to the dashboard design, which should be pretty much identical. That’s definitely a good thing, because this means an attractive design, with fancy shapes and materials, as well as with lots of tech features, starting from a highly-positioned digital instrument cluster, 12.3-inch infotainment screen that will probably be controlled via a rotary knob, and all kinds of tech features etc.
When it comes to seating configuration, we count on the same amount of space as in the crossover. This means two spacious rows of seats, which both accommodate adults with ease. The cargo bed is still a mystery. Still, we presume it would stick to the segment standards, which would something like a 4-foot unit.
2023 Subaru Solterra Pickup Truck Powertrain
This aspect definitely won’t bring surprises. We expect to see the same setup as in Soltera and bz4X models. So, count on a combination of two electric motors, with a total output of 215 horsepower and 248 pound-feet of torque, which should ensure decent performance. Of course, you would get a choice of different drive modes – Eco, Normal, Power, and X-mode. The latter would be some kind of off-road mode, while the company also promises “Grip Control” which is, we believe, some of low-speed cruise control. The truck should also include regenerative braking, where paddle shifters behind the steering wheel would serve to adjust the level.
When it comes to the battery, we don’t know the capacity. Still, we presume that the max range will be similar to the Soltera crossover, which should be able to make more than 220 miles on a single charge.

We believe that the 2023 Subaru Solterra Pickup Truck could arrive by the end of this year, with a starting price of around 40.000 dollars.
