2021 Subaru Baja Pickup Truck Comeback Rumors

0

We all remember the excellent Subaru Baja from the first decade of the 2000s. That model was praised for many reasons but some strange things happened, so the model was discontinued in 2007. Since then, we feel very nostalgic about the compact pickup and truly hope it could come back one date. It looks like that day has come if we can rely on the latest reports. According to some sources, there is a big chance to see the new model in the near future, maybe already as 2021 Subaru Baja Pickup Truck.

At this point, we don’t know anything for sure about this model. It’s all about rumors, so we must rely on them. Still, some things are pretty easy to conclude and predict, especially when it comes to base design characteristics. We have no doubt that the new 2021 Subaru Baja Pickup Truck will once again come based on models like Outback and Legacy and come with a familiar design approach.

2021 Subaru Baja Pickup Truck Redesign

The thing that seems easiest to predict is the base layout of the 2021 Subaru Baja Pickup Truck. We have no doubt that the new model will stick to the proven recipe. This means it will ride on Subaru’s new modular platform and share most of its models with the aforementioned Outback and Legacy models. Both vehicles came completely redesigned this year, so everything looks ready for the new pickup. The 2021 Subaru Baja Pickup Truck will ride on a unibody layout. This brings obvious benefits compared to the BoF vehicle. Of course, the first one that comes to mind comfort, as this model is about to deliver superior ride quality. This goes beyond comfort and also includes handling and overall performances. As we are talking about the company’s excellent AWD system as a part of standard equipment, there is no doubt that off-road performances would be amazing as well.

2021 Subaru Baja Pickup Truck Exterior

Of course, one of the things that come to mind is the styling and overall exterior design. What we expect from the 2021 Subaru Baja Pickup Truck is a typical pickup layout, which won’t be truckish but rather derived from a passenger car. Therefore, count on two rows of seats and a small cargo bed behind, while ground clearance would probably be at the same level as on the Outback.

When it comes to styling, we count on the implementation of the company’s latest design language. So the front end should look largely the same as on other Subaru models, particularly the new Legacy, which comes with a little bit sharper approach than before, but Subaru’s traditionally conservative styling policy is present on every corner.

Interior

When it comes to interior design, we count on the same layout as in Legacy and Outback. This means practically the identical dashboard design, which is one of the biggest improvements compared to some previous generations of Subaru models. In the past, this carmaker wasn’t really focused on the interior, so most cabins were rather practical than styling. With the new model, the story is completely different and there is an opulent dashboard, full of quality materials and with attractive aesthetics. Everything looks even more opulent, thanks to the long list of standard equipment.

As we’ve already mentioned, this model is about to come in a double cab layout, with two rows of seats. Still, the second row will probably be a little bit tighter compared to the aforementioned siblings, due to the cargo bed. Some sources also suggest the possibility to see a coupe utility version, with just one row of seats. Still, that’s just a rumor for now.

2021 Subaru Baja Pickup Truck Engines

Things are pretty clear here, as we count on Subaru’s typical powertrain options. Most likely, the company will offer a naturally-aspirated engine in base trim levels. Of course, a 2.5-liter four-cylinder is the unit that comes to mind. This engine delivers around 182 horsepower. That won’t make you particularly fast, but a good thing about this engine is more than a decent fuel economy that goes around 27 mpg in the city and 35 mpg on the highway in the case of Legacy, so we may expect similar numbers in this case.

On the other side, higher trims will come with a new 2.4-liter turbo-four, which delivers pretty impressive 260 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque, which promises some pretty respectable performances. Of course, Subaru’s excellent AWD system will be standard in all versions.

Release Date and Price

The 2021 Subaru Baja Pickup Truck is just a rumor for now. Still, a couple of reliable sources suggest we might see it pretty soon. We presume that the company will tend to make it affordable and approachable to a wider range of buyers, so base models should go under 30.000 dollars. Key competitors will be Honda Ridgeline and Hyundai Santa Cruz.
