By Although it didn’t last for long, Subaru Baja has a cult status among Subaru enthusiasts. The famous pickup was in production for just a couple of years but it left a big mark. If we can trust the latest reports, the Japanese manufacturer is about to bring back a pickup design to its lineup and even though it will probably feature a different nameplate, we are really excited about this rumor. At this point, the actual name is still a mystery, so we will call it the 2023 Subaru Pickup Truck for now.
The officials are still quiet on this matter, so we can only speculate about the new model. At this point, one of the rare things that seem like a certain thing is the platform, which would feature a typical unibody layout. Other than that, we expect that the new model will feature a bigger size compared to its predecessor.
We believe that the 2023 Subaru Pickup Truck could hit the market sometime in the second half of 2022.
2023 Subaru Pickup Truck Design
As we’ve just mentioned, we can only speculate about the new pickup. One of the rare things that seems like a certain thing is a platform. This won’t be a traditional pickup with a body-on-frame platform. Instead, it will feature a modern, unibody design, which will bring a little bit different ride quality compared to traditional pickups. This particularly refers to the ride quality, which would be pretty similar to a crossover. Think of a Honda Ridgeline level of comfort, as the two models are expected to compete in the future.
On the other hand, the main downside of this design is the lack of towing capacity. We don’t expect that this pickup will be able to tow more than 5.000 pounds. For comparison, traditional mid-size pickups like Ford Ranger and Chevy Colorado can tow over 7.500 pounds.
Exterior Design
When it comes to the exterior design, we expect that the 2023 Subaru Pickup Truck will compete in the mid-size segment. This indicates that most of the parts will be shared with Ascent. The mid-size SUV has been around for a while and it has a lot of good things to offer. We presume that the new pickup could feature the same front-end styling. On the other hand, the rest of the vehicle would feature a typical pickup layout. Most likely, a crew cab model will be the only version on the offer.
Interior
On the inside, we presume that a lot of things would also be shared with the Ascent SUV. This particularly refers to the dashboard design. We count on the same layout, which means a nice combination of fine materials, good build quality, lots of standard equipment etc. As we’ve just mentioned, the crew cab model should be the only one on the offer, which means that we are about to see a couple of comfortable rows of seats, with a seating capacity of five.
2023 Subaru Pickup Truck Engine
When it comes to powertrain, the first engine that comes to mind is a 2.4-liter turbo-four, which puts out around 260 horsepower and 277 pound-feet of torque. The engine comes in pair with a CVT gearbox, while the company’s famous all-wheel-drive system would be standard without any doubt.
There is also a chance to see something less powerful, reserved for the base version. That would probably be a 2.5-liter naturally-aspirated inline-four, which puts out 182 horsepower. This one would also come in pair with a CVT.
2023 Subaru Pickup Truck Release Date and Price
As we’ve just mentioned, the 2023 Subaru Pickup Truck could come already in the second half of 2022. We presume that base versions would cost under 30.000 dollars.
