Despite the new generation of Sierra HD models has been introduced just recently, it looks some nice updates are on the way for the second production year. According to the latest reports, the 2021 GMC Sierra 3500HD is about to receive some smaller updates in terms of tech features, particularly in camera trailing software. Other than that, we don’t expect to see more significant updates. The new model should continue with all the goodies that have arrived with the recent overhaul. This includes significant improvement in terms of towing capacity. Also, there is a new gasoline engine and all other kinds of novelties. According to the latest reports, the 2021 GMC Sierra 3500HD will be available already in the summer.
2021 GMC Sierra 3500HD Changes
As we already mentioned, there are some smaller updates we expect to see in the 2021 GMC Sierra 3500HD. This particularly refers to the camera trailing system. It looks like we are about to see new software, while it’s unknown if we are about to see some new camera angles or not. At this point, the system consists of 15 camera angles, which provide all kinds of real-time views – ahead of pickup, from the sides, behind the trailer, inside the bed, top views etc.
When it comes to configurations and overall design, we don’t expect to see any bigger changes. Therefore, you may count on the same, recently introduced styling, as well as on familiar configurations that include three cab designs, bed sizes, rear-wheel configuration etc. When it comes to trim levels, each version could get a couple of novelties. Still, most of the things are expected to remain the same. The trim level organization will definitely remain the same. So, you may count on familiar models – base Sierra, SLE, SLT, AT4 and Denali.
When it comes to the base Sierra models, the list of standard features isn’t very long. This is a typical workhorse that comes with goodies like a 7-inch touchscreen display, Bluetooth, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration. Moreover, even this version comes with chrome bumpers and LED headlights.
Trim Levels like SLE and SLT gradually add more standard equipment. Things like integrated trailer brake controller, cruise control, power windows and remote keyless entry and Wi-Fi hotspot are part of the standard equipment in the SLE model. The SLT adds digital variable steering assist, upgraded trailering technologies, LED cargo bed lighting, household power outlets and more.
On the other side, the AT4 is an off-road-oriented model. It comes with unique styling details, as well as with mechanical upgrades like standard 4WD, an off-road suspension, skid plates, a locking rear differential. Moreover, you may count hill start assist, hill descent control and an Off-Road driving mode.
While the AT4 is a fresh fish, the Denali is a well-known name that it’s all about luxury. In this trim level, you may count not just on a full load of standard equipment, but also on unique styling details, both outside and on the inside.
2021 GMC Sierra 3500HD Engine
The powertrain department will definitely remain the same. You may count on the recently introduced 6.6-liter V8 gasoline unit, which is good for 401 horsepower and 464 pound-feet of torque. Of course, there is also a well-known 6.6-liter Duramax V8 turbodiesel, which remained pretty much the same and delivers around 445 horsepower and 910 pound-feet of torque. Despite the same output, towing capacity has been increased significantly. So the new model can tow up to impressive 35.500 pounds.
Release Date and Price
As we already mentioned, the 2021 GMC Sierra 3500HD is expected to hit the market in the summer. The price should remain pretty much the same as for the current model, which starts slightly under 37.000 dollars.
