2021 GMC Canyon Redesign or a Facelift

0

The compact pickup truck has been around since 2014 and it looks it’s time for updates. The testing model has been spotted and it looks like the 2021 GMC Canyon is about to come with a couple of novelties. From what we can see on the test mule, the new model will come with visual enhancements. However, this won’t be a major update, as the rest of the features is about to remain pretty much the same. The upcoming model will continue with the same overall design, which combines excellent towing and hauling capabilities with a smooth ride and great cabin quality. According to the latest reports, the current generation will carry on for a couple more years.

2021 GMC Canyon Gets New Grille

One look at the spy shots and you can clearly see which areas are about to get changes. A camouflage clearly indicates that this is going to be a pretty modest update, as the grille seems to be the only part to be modified. It should become bigger and more massive. If you look at the current grille, it is bold and pretty typical for GMC. Also, you can notice another air-intake area under it. Most likely, these two areas will be integrated into one large and massive grille. The 2021 GMC Canyon should come with a grille design that closely resembles the new Sierra, so both trucks will be adapted to the brand’s new design language.

Other than that, the things are about to remain pretty much the same. The rest of the 2021 GMC Canyon won’t be much different compared to the current model. Mechanically, things are about to remain the same.

No Interior Changes

Our reliable sources claim that the 2021 GMC Canyon won’t feature any notable change on the inside. As we already mentioned, this won’t be a major update, but rather just a slight facelift. Therefore, the cabin is about to remain the same, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing. The current model features one of the finest cabins in the segment, full of quality materials and with a pretty attractive dashboard layout. The cabin is also comfortable, though the front seats could be a little bit more supportive. The list of standard equipment is pretty decent as well. We could see a couple of novelties for the next year, but the core should remain the same. This includes tech goodies as well, as the current model already comes standard with a  touchscreen interface, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, Bluetooth and other tech essentials.

2021 GMC Canyon Engines

Under the hood, the 2021 GMC Canyon will continue with three familiar engines in the offer. This truck is characterized by excellent working characteristics, mainly thanks to capable engines. Base models will continue with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder, which is good for about 200 horsepower. Of course, an optional V6 seems like a much better deal, as it delivers 308 horsepower and 270 pound-feet of torque.

Finally, there is a familiar 2.8-liter Duramax diesel engine, which is good for about 180 hp and 370 lb-ft of torque. It’s not the fastest but definitely is the most capable version. Thanks to a massive amount of torque, it can tow up to 7.700 pounds. V6 models are also pretty capable, as the max towing capacity goes around 7.000 pounds.

2021 GMC Canyon Release Date and Price

Despite the updates, the 2021 GMC Canyon won’t come much earlier than usual. We expect to see it sometime late in the next year, with the starting price of around 22.500 dollars. Although updates are pretty modest, the current generation is expected to carry on for several more years. Most likely, a complete overhaul will happen in 2023.
