The new generation of the popular truck came recently. It is amazing in so many ways but it’s still missing one thing – a diesel engine. Considering that oil-burners are popular among truck drivers these days, there’s no doubt that the 2020 Ram 1500 with such engine will be popular as well. The familiar inline-six turbodiesel has been officially confirmed months ago and we’ve now spotted a test version. It is in the final stage of development. It comes in a Big Horn trim level, with Sport appearance package, which seems like a pretty interesting combination. Seems clear that a new oil-burner will be available across the whole range of models. Therefore, expect that the 2020 Ram 1500 Big Horn Sport EcoDiesel will be one of the first versions to hit the market.
2020 Ram 1500 Big Horn Sport EcoDiesel Specs
Other than an engine, it looks like the new diesel version won’t be much different compared to gasoline-powered versions. The tested 2020 Ram 1500 Big Horn Sport EcoDiesel comes with a familiar design, which is based on the new-generation model, which came with significant improvements in many aspects. This is a pretty basic trim level, which doesn’t feature a too-long list of standard equipment.
However, it also comes with an optional Sports package, which features a plethora of exclusive visual details. Some of the highlights are things like auto-dimming exterior driver mirror; body-color grille, bumpers, and door handles, power-folding and heated mirrors; and exterior mirrors with turn signals and courtesy lamps etc. We presume that the company wanted to show that the new diesel engine will be available in both basic and better-equipped versions.
On the inside, the upcoming diesel model won’t feature too many changes. Practically, a new instrument cluster should be the only major difference. Other than that, count on the same cabin layout, which is characterized by plenty of opulence, hi-quality materials and attractive dashboard design. When it comes to the 2020 Ram 1500 Big Horn Sport EcoDiesel in particular, count on exclusive features that are typical for the Sport package.
This includes things like black interior accents, deluxe cloth bucket seat etc. In terms of the standard equipment, this trim level is pretty basic. The list of standard features includes things like 5-inch touchscreen, push-button start, Bluetooth, three USB ports, a rearview camera etc. Still, there is also a decent list of options, which includes a bigger 8.4-inch touchscreen, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, as well as goodies like satellite radio and power-sliding rear window.
Ram 1500 Big Horn Sport EcoDiesel Powertrain
Of course, the most interesting thing about 2020 Ram 1500 Big Horn Sport EcoDiesel is powertrain. Under the hood, the new model will come with a familiar 3.0-liter inline-six turbodiesel, which receives a couple of updates for this occasion. So, max output will be higher than before. While the previous versions of this engines are good for about 240 horsepower, this one will go all-away up to 277, which will make this truck a class-leader. Also, count on about 460 pound-feet of max torque.
At this point, we don’t know in which trim levels this diesel engine will be available, though we are pretty sure that most of them will have this unit in the offer. Benefits from the new engine are obvious. Fuel economy will be much better than in gasoline models, while the max towing capacity will be on a high level as well.
Release Date and Price
We expect to see 2020 Ram 1500 Big Horn Sport EcoDiesel sometime in the last quarter of the year. Details about the price are still unavailable, but we presume it will go around 40.000 dollars.
