By Back in the day, Kia had a body-on-frame SUV on offer for the North American market. That model was called Borrego and it was available for a couple of years, until 2009. The same model was and still is on offer in South Korea, where it uses the Mohave moniker. That model is still in production, after two facelifts and now it looks like it could get a pickup iteration. That model was rumored a while ago and it is expected to arrive this or next year, as the 2024 Kia Mohave Pickup Truck.
It looks like the current expansion of mid-size and compact pickups in North America has encouraged the Korean manufacturer to look for its piece of share. So, the new model would come to compete with models like Nissan Frontier and GMC Canyon, with a proper, fully framed chassis. At this point, details about the powertrain are still unavailable, but we presume the company could come with something new, instead of the current oil burner.
2024 Kia Mohave Pickup Truck Design
In terms of base design characteristics, we expect no surprises from the 2024 Kia Mohave Pickup Truck. We count on the same design, based on the current Mohave SUV. The SUV has been on the market since 2008 and it is still in production, with two facelifts behind. The second one happened in 2019 and it made this SUV looks very attractive and modern. So, we presume that the pickup would share not just mechanics, but aesthetics as well.
Of course, we are talking about the front-end design, which would feature the same headlights, grille and other parts. On the other hand, we would see a typical pickup body style and rumors suggest both dual- and single-cab layouts. Digital renderings already appeared on the network and look very realistic.
Interior
If the 2024 Kia Mohave Pickup Truck arrives in North America, there is no doubt that the interior would be one of its key strengths, but only if the pickup is about to feature the same cabin as the SUV. The Mohave’s interior also received big updates in 2019 and the cabin now looks pretty upscale, especially when compared to other pickups on the market. The materials are very nice, the aesthetics are attractive, and there is also a pretty generous offer of tech and convenience features.
As we’ve just mentioned, the 2024 Mohave Pickup Truck would be offered both in single-cab and dual-cab configurations, according to rumors. Base models would accommodate two passengers, while versions with two rows would accommodate five adults.
2024 Kia Mohave Pickup Truck Engines
When it comes to powertrain, the Mohave SUV comes with a pretty capable 3.0-liter V6 turbodiesel. It puts out around 250 horsepower and 413 pound-feet of torque, which would make it quite competitive with the diesel-powered Jeep Gladiator. Still, we are pretty sure that the Korean manufacturer would also prepare a gasoline version, as most American buyers would go for such a configuration. One of the possibilities is to see the 3.8-liter V6 from Telluride, which puts out around 290 horsepower and 259 pound-feet of torque.
Both engines would come in pair with 8-speed automatic transmission. Base models would feature rear-wheel drive, while AWD models would be available.
2024 Kia Mohave Pickup Truck Release Date and Price
At this point, the 2024 Kia Mohave Pickup Truck is just a rumor and as the officials are still quiet, the actual chance to see it in the near future isn’t too big. Still, this could easily change if we hear something from the officials in the near future. If it arrives in North America, we presume that Kia will offer a competitive price, with base models going under $30.000.
