By The new generation of North America’s best-selling mid-size pickup is under development and we expect to see it by the end of this year. We count on all kinds of novelties and one of them should be electrification. We expect to see the 2023 Toyota Tacoma Hybrid, which would get a new powertrain system, with better efficiency and overall performance.
Besides the hybrid powertrain, this redesign will bring novelties and improvements in various other aspects. Of course, one of them will be a completely new platform, which should bring big novelties in terms of the chassis and suspension setup. Naturally, we also count on a completely new styling, as well as on a new interior design, and we presume that these things won’t be much different compared to the standard, gasoline-powered version.
The all-new 2023 Toyota Tacoma Hybrid should hit the market sometime in the last quarter of the year.
2022 Model Year
2023 Toyota Tacoma Hybrid Powertrain
Of course, the most interesting aspect of this particular version will be the powertrain. At this point, the officials are still quiet on this matter. On one side, we can see reports that suggest a familiar system, based on the 2.5-liter inline-four, the same one that powers the Highlander. However, we can also hear reports about the all-new systems, which sounds more likely to us.
The new system would be pretty similar to the one that recently debuted in new Tundra. However, the major difference would come in the fact that Tacoma Hybrid would be based on a smaller engine than the V6. We presume that would be the new 2.4-liter turbo-four. Also, we expect that this powertrain would come in pair with a 10-speed automatic transmission. We estimate that the combined output would go somewhere between 300 and 350 horsepower.
2022 Model Year
2023 Toyota Tacoma Hybrid Redesign
Of course, this redesign will bring much more than just a new hybrid powertrain. We count on a completely new layout, based on the new TNGA-F platform, the same one that underpins the new Tundra, Sequoia and Lexus LX. Logically, we would see smaller dimensions compared to the aforementioned full-size siblings. Most likely, dimensions will remain similar to the current generation.
Another big novelty we expect to see is the suspension setup. We expect that the new Tacoma will finally drop leaf springs on the rear end and offer something more advanced. We count on a higher level of comfort, as well as on better driving characteristics.
Naturally, we expect to see a completely new styling, with a lot of inspiration taken from the new Tundra.
Interior
Naturally, this redesign will also bring a completely new interior design. At this point, it’s still early to talk about details, but we presume we will see a more modern look, with a more attractive dashboard design. Of course, this refers to finer materials, better build quality and similar things. Also, we count on the latest tech features, which would include a new infotainment system, wireless smartphone integration and other things.
2022 Model Year
Another big improvement we expect to see is more space on the inside. The current generation isn’t particularly friendly to taller passengers, so we expect improvements with the new model. Also, we count on more room in the second row, which should be able to accommodate adults comfortably. Single cab models are not expected.
2023 Toyota Tacoma Hybrid Release Date and Price
We expect that the 2023 Toyota Tacoma Hybrid will arrive along with the gasoline version, by the end of this year. We expect that base versions will cost around 35.000 dollars, while the key competitors should be Ford Ranger Hybrid, which is also expected to come with the Ranger’s redesign.
