2023 Jeep Comanche: Rumors and Expectations

0

It looks like pickups are more popular than ever and that particularly refers to smaller models. Not only that there is a pretty generous offer of mid-size pickups, but a completely new segment has also just been established. With the introduction of the new Ford Maverick and Hyundai Santa Cruz, there is a completely new class of compact pickups. Not only that these vehicles feature compact dimensions but also come with another interesting design solution – a unibody platform. Therefore, it’s no wonder that Jeep also plans to compete in this segment. Allegedly, the new model would come as the 2023 Jeep Comanche.

At this point, we don’t know much about design details and features but we presume that the overall design would be based on some of the existing small SUVs. The first thing that comes to mind is the Renegade, which could borrow not just mechanics, but also most of the styling and interior design solutions.

Rumors suggest that the 2023 Jeep Comanche could arrive already in the second half of the next year.

2023 Jeep Comanche Design

This wouldn’t be the first time to see a “Comanche” nameplate in use. What’s interesting is that the previous iteration was also used for a unibody pickup, back in the 80s. That model was based on Cherokee back in the day, so we would expect to see something similar from the rumored revival.

However, we would probably see something smaller this time. The latest reports suggest that the 2023 Jeep Comanche would be based on the Jeep Renegade. The subcompact crossover would provide pretty much complete mechanics, though minor chassis modifications would be expected.

Moreover, the small crossover would also serve as inspiration in terms of aesthetics. We presume that the front end would look the same or very similar. The rest of the body would come in a typical pickup layout, which means that the wheelbase would be stretched, in order to accommodate a decently-sized cargo bed, which would probably be around 4 feet long. The standard model would come in a double cab layout, though we could also see commercial versions, with a regular cab design.

Interior

The Renegade would also serve as a basis in terms of interior design. We presume that the dashboard would look pretty similar, though there is one thing to keep in mind – the small crossover is about to receive another refresh, which could also bring interior updates. In that scenario, we would see the same or similar changes we saw in the recently-updated Compass, which came with a larger infotainment screen, nicer materials and more attractive dashboard aesthetics.

Of course, the 2023 Jeep Comanche would adopt the same updates though we presume that everything would come slightly toned down. In other words, we would see less tech convenience and tech features, along with a slightly lower quality of materials, which would ensure a competitive price.

2023 Jeep Comanche Engines

When it comes to the powertrain, we presume it would also be borrowed from the Renegade. That would mean the same 1.3-liter turbo-four, which may be small but is actually quite capable. The engine is available in two variants, with either 150 or 180 horsepower, and it comes coupled with a 9-speed automatic transmission. Of course, the all-wheel drive would be available, while base models would come with an FWD setup.

Some sources also speculate about a plug-in hybrid version, which would feature the same powertrain as Renegade in certain markets, with a setup that offers up to 240 horsepower. Moreover, there is also a chance to see a diesel version in certain parts of the world. That model would use Fiat’s good-old 1.6-liter turbo-four, probably in a version with 120 horsepower.
