The Tacoma has always been a quintessential pickup truck, with characteristics that meet the demands of most truckers. After all, that’s probably the main reason why this truck has such a big fanbase and still holds the leading position in the segment by a huge margin. The current generation has been around for about five years. After the last-year refresh, the 2021 model year comes without more important updates. Considering that the current generation is expected to remain in production for a few more years, there is no doubt that the 2022 Toyota Tacoma will also be a typical carryover model.
This means you may count on familiar design characteristics. This isn’t the most refined model in the class. It isn’t the most capable either. Still, it offers Toyota’s unparalleled reliability in a combination with impressive off-road performances even in the most basic models. Also, the list of standard equipment is pretty long for a pickup truck, especially when it comes to safety features. We expect to see the 2022 Toyota Tacoma sometime in the second half of next year.
2022 Toyota Tacoma Design
In terms of base design characteristics, we definitely won’t see any particular change. The 2022 Toyota Tacoma is about to carry on with the same design, which has been around since 2015. This is a good-looking pickup truck, which comes with relatively modest dimensions for the segment. However, this makes it quite maneuverable. In terms of the styling, we haven’t seen any particular updates since the initial launch, so the 2022 Toyota Tacoma probably won’t change in this aspect either.
Still, don’t exclude the possibility to see some kind of a special edition. Toyota practices this quite frequently. For example, the 2021 model year comes with a limited edition called Trail Edition, which will come in only 7.000 units.
On the inside, the last-year update has brought a lot of interesting novelties, starting from a new infotainment system, power-adjustable driver’s seat and similar things. Therefore, we don’t expect any significant change in the 2022 Toyota Tacoma. The overall layout will certainly remain the same, which means you may count on a lot of hard, but also durable plastics.
One of the drawbacks we should mention is the interior space. Even in a crew cab variant, this model isn’t particularly generous with space. Moreover, the second row seems pretty tight. Therefore, is this one of your main concerns, you should probably consider models like Jeep Gladiator and Honda Ridgeline.
2022 Toyota Tacoma Engines
The engine lineup is expected to remain the same. This means you may count on two familiar gasoline units, which aren’t particularly impressive but do the job pretty well. Base versions are equipped with a familiar 2.7-liter four-cylinder engine, which delivers around 160 horsepower. Those who are looking for better driving dynamics can opt for a familiar 3.5-liter V6, which puts around 278 horsepower and 265 pound-feet of torque. Both engines come in pair with a 6-speed automatic, though you can also get manual in several versions.
When it comes to fuel economy, the base engine returns around 20 mpg in the city and 23 mpg on the highway. The V6 returns around 19 mpg in the city and 24 mpg on the highway. Max towing capacity goes around 6.800 pounds. While that’s quite average number for the class, 1685 pounds of the max payload capacity seems pretty good for a mid-size pickup truck.
2022 Toyota Tacoma Release Date and Price
Since we don’t expect to see any bigger changes, the 2022 Toyota Tacoma should arrive sometime late in the next year. Base models should go around 27.000 dollars.
