2022 Renault Alaskan: No Bigger Changes Planned

0

While the Navara has just been updated, its clone from Renault won’t be receiving changes in the following period. The latest reports suggest we are about to see a familiar design, which has been introduced in 2016. Since then, the Alaskan has been offering a design that may seem very similar to Nissan’s, but which also comes with a couple of exclusive details. The 2022 Renault Alaskan won’t be any different and it will be a typical carryover model.

This means that you may count on a pickup that combines capabilities and comfort in such a nice fashion. Also, there are two quite good engine options, as well as a pretty long list of standard and available equipment. When it comes to things we don’t like about this pickup truck, the first thing that comes to mind is dull handling. Also, the automatic transmission could be better, while the interior design is pretty much the same as in Navara.

2022 Renault Alaskan Redesign

As we’ve just mentioned, the 2022 Renault Alaskan won’t bring any particular change. We are about to see a familiar layout, which hasn’t changed too much since the initial launch in  2016. This truck is heavily based on Navara in every way. This refers to both mechanics and aesthetics. When it comes to mechanics, we particularly like the five-link rear suspension, which provides a very comfortable ride without sacrificing towing and payload capacities, as well as overall performance.

Styling-wise, the obvious difference is the front end. It is designed in Renault’s typical fashion, which feels modern and attractive. On the other side, the Navara rather sticks with classic aesthetical solutions. The rest of the truck, though, is pretty much the same as in the Japanese sibling.

Interior

After the premiere of this pickup, five years ago, the interior design was one of the biggest disappointments. Not that it looks bad but it simply features a dashboard design that is identical to Navara’s. Renault fans expect something different, something more French, we would say.

In any case, the cabin looks good. Materials are mostly hard plastics, but that also means benefits in terms of durability. Also, the list of standard and available equipment is pretty long. You may count on a decent infotainment system, a good sound system, and a fair amount of safety system. In more expensive versions, you can even get things like a 360-view camera.

The 2022 Renault Alaskan will continue with a double cab layout. Both rows offer enough space to accommodate adults, while the front seats are decently comfortable. The driving position and overall ergonomics are good.

2022 Renault Alaskan Engine

Things under the hood definitely won’t change. This truck will continue with two familiar engine options in the offer. Both feature the same 2.3-liter turbodiesel but come with different max output. Standard models are good for about 160 horsepower, while more upscale variants offer a max output of 190 horses. In both cases, you can choose between a 6-speed manual and 7-speed automatic transmission. In our opinion, the manual is a better choice. The rear-wheel drive is standard, while 4WD is available.

As we already mentioned, this truck is comfortable but doesn’t sacrifice capability. So, you may count on typical ratings in terms of towing and hauling. The max towing capacity is 3.500 kg, while the max payload goes a little bit over one ton.
